“So elephant in the room. How many times has he messaged you?”
“Who?” He laughs.
I give him a knowing look.
“A couple. He was pretty frantic this morning. I think I’ve calmed him down. I told him to give you some space.”
“Thanks, Bryan,” I say, resting my head on his shoulder.
“Judging by the messages I got later, I’m guessing he knows how much he’s fucked up.”
He points to the ring.
“That's a good sign, I’m guessing?”
“Yeah. I don’t want us to break up or anything. I just need him to give me my space.”
“Well, good.” Says Catherine. “You two are perfect together. Also, it would make every Christmas kinda awkward. Or, you know when we have kids and you guys can’t be in the same room as each other.”
I burst out laughing.
“I get the point, Catherine.”
“Of course, there is nothing wrong with letting him stew for the time being.”
Bryan bursts out laughing.
“You tell him I said that, and I swear…”
“He’s not going to hear it from me. I’m with you on this, Catherine. That’s as good as what I told him."
We spent the rest of the evening enjoying each other's company and catching up. Catherine showed me some of the wedding photos she had gotten back, and it was nice just the three of us catching up.
I emailedmy team yesterday and two of them are arriving today. We have a big meeting at the end of the week, and I feel better about getting work done with them here.
The hotel manager walks into the room followed by someone from housekeeping with some refreshments for us all.
We all introduce ourselves and work around the room pitching some ideas we have. The hotel manager keeps looking my way and at my ring, and it’s feeling a little weird.
I guess I never realized just how cool everyone at the office had been about me and Adrien.
We hash out a bunch of different campaign ideas, and Alex tells them some things we’re ready for changing straight away.
“So, what does Adrien think?” asked the hotel manager. She told me her name an hour ago and I’ve already forgotten it.
Everyone looks at me.
“Mr. Banks rarely gets involved this early. Ms. Raine is more than capable of dealing with everything at the moment. You know, with this being her department.”
Oh my god, Alex, I could kiss you right now for having my back. You’re getting a raise.
The hotel manager, whose name I don’t plan on learning now, scowls at me from across the table.
I hear a ping on my phone. I turn it over to check it's nothing important. I smile when I see it's from Alex across the table from me.
Alex: What is her problem?
Sara: No idea.
