“I’d feel better getting Adrien on the phone.”
Everyone looks at me again.
“If Mr. Banks felt the need to be in this meeting, he’d be here. He needed to stay in LA to finish some other business. As the head of this department, any problems you have, I’m sure we can sort them out.”
I take a deep breath. This woman is pushing my last nerve.
“Now might be a good time for us to take a small break, stretch our legs.”
She stands up and walks out of the room, phone in hand. I swear to god if that woman goes over my head; I am going to lose it.
Alex picks up my bag and passes it to me.
“We're going out for ten minutes.”
Alex has quickly become a good friend to me since I started working at AB Enterprises. Hell, I’d say my best friend. Adrien was right. He’s good and I really like him.
We make our way to the sofa chairs near the reception area and sit down.
“Want to tell me what’s going on? We weren’t supposed to be having this meeting for another couple of weeks.”
I groan.
“Me and Adrien got into a bit of a fight. I needed some space.”
“Understandable.”
He just carries on looking at me. I know he expects me to say more.
“He didn’t tell me that someone I don’t particularly like worked in the accounting department. I thought she just worked in the building. Then I found out they used to sleep together. He told me it was a one time thing.”
Alex whistles next to me.
“We’re talking about Katie, right?”
“Does everyone know?”
My eyes bug out at him. I want to scream.
A man walks past, and Alex looks up.
“Kyle,” he shouts.
“Hi,” Kyle says.
“I was going to get in touch later, so you’re saving me a call. Want to meet up for drinks later?”
“Erm maybe. Not sure how late I’m going to be working. Kyle, this is Sara Raine. Head of in house marketing and soon to be Mrs Banks.”
“Nice to finally meet you,” Kyle smiles at me.
“Hi” I say, not really knowing how to take that.
“What I mean is, I was working the night of Catherine and Bryan’s wedding and Ady got a little, shall we say, grumpy when he couldn’t find you that night.”
“You call him Ady, you must be a good friend,” I smile, relaxing a bit.
“Something like that. Look, I really need to get going. Ms Raine…”
