“Yeah.”
“Are they okay?”
“Mama and baby are good. Can you tell me what happened?”
“It’s a beautiful night,” he said. “Come sit with me.”
With his arm around her, he walked passed the SUVs and eased down on a porch step. “How are you doing?” he asked.
She sat next to him, caressed his back. He stared up at the star-filled sky, appreciating the chirping crickets, his love by his side. He was grateful to be alive.
“I’m okay now,” she replied. “Not gonna lie, I was pretty scared when I saw you wrapped in plastic in the freezer.”
“He saw me as an obstacle to having you.”
“God, no,” she murmured. “You were right. Heisobsessed with me. I’m sorry I ever hooked up with him—”
“Don’t go there, babe. This isallon him. All of it.” He dropped a tender kiss on her lips. “He admitted to killing Barry, hoping I’d get kicked out of ALPHA.”
“What? That’s so messed up.”
“He’s the one who hacked into my client accounts, activated their cameras, and posted the videos.”
“But why?”
“He wanted my business to fail.”
After Hawk brought her up to speed, he said, “we’ve gotta arrest him, but we need backup. I’ll call Cooper on the way to the hospital.”
Addison pulled out her phone, logged in to ALPHA’s secure site. “Tommy’s at a bar in Arlington.” She kissed his cheek. “How are you feeling?”
“Besides furious?”
She stroked his thigh. “Physically.”
“I’m good. One of my toes is numb and another is pins and needles, but they’ll come back.” He’d been caressing her back, running his fingers through her long hair. “I love you.”
Their eyes met. Her smile made his heart pound faster in his chest.
“I love you,” she replied.
“I’m gonna miss you.”
She stiffened. “What does that mean?”
He kissed her. “I love seeing you every day. Love that we live together.”
She sighed. “I thought you were ending things.”
“How’d you jump to that?”
“You told me you were gonna miss me.”
“You don’t need my protection, so I figured you’d move back home.”
“What doyouwant?”
“You, babe. Every single day.” He captured her face in his hands and kissed her. “How ‘bout you?”
