“There’s always something more with you. Don’t worry, Wolf. I won’t come for you. You’re too powerful to fuck with,” Diego said.
Even if Diego did send his men to kill Wolf, it wouldn’t work because Wolf would stay prepared. Having his son kidnapped was new to Wolf, but Diego wasn’t the first of his enemies to come for him. It was a relief to hear Diego say that he wasn’t out for Wolf’s blood. Besides, Wolf didn’t think Diego was stupid enough to go after him again.
Diego looked away and focused on the device in his hand. He dialed a number, then held the phone up to his ear. After the second ring, the line connected.
Wolf stood behind the desk, his arms crossed over his chest as he waited.
“Hey …”
The office was so quiet that Wolf could hear the person Diego was speaking to through the phone.
“Diego, where are you?” a man asked. By the look of relief on Diego’s face, it must have felt damn good to hear one of his gangsters again.
“Listen … I need you to leave the kid where you are and send me the address.”
“Everything good?”
“Yeah …” Diego paused, making eye contact with Wolf. “And get the fuck out of there when you’re done.”
“Alright.”
Diego hung up and shoved his phone into the pocket of his jeans. “It’s done. They’re going to let him go.”
Once Diego had given him the address, Wolf sent Rex to retrieve Levi. Wolf stepped out to the front of the mansion with Diego. They didn’t say anything to each other as a sedan rolled up and parked before them. The engine was still running, and Diego got into the back seat of the car.
“Take him wherever he wants,” Wolf said.
“Yes sir,” the chauffeur said before he closed the door and rounded the car, getting into the driver’s seat.
The window zoomed down, and Wolf made eye contact with Diego.
“Stay out of trouble, Diego,” Wolf said.
Diego watched Wolf, but he didn’t say anything. The tires of the sedan crunched slowly over the gravel, passing the glossy black gates.
Wolf stayed outside with his hands in the pockets of his slacks as he watched the car drive away.
After a few minutes, Rex drove onto the property and parked in front of the mansion. Levi got out of the car, avoiding Wolf’s gaze.
“Levi,” Wolf said.
Levi stopped and looked at Wolf. He had a scowl on his face, slight bags under his eyes, and a busted lower lip.
Wolf reached for Levi’s chin, looking at his face. “You’re hurt.”
Levi pulled back and looked away. “I’m fine,” he mumbled before he walked inside.
CHAPTERSIX
Diego slammedhis unloaded pistol on the wooden desk. His new plans and Wolf’s influence had brought forth new anxieties. He paced the office and tried to ignore the gnawing feeling of doubt in his stomach. The door opened, and he stopped pacing.
“He’s here,” Ander said.
A man’s yell echoed within the new mechanic garage they had settled into a few days before. Diego smirked. “Good. Make sure he’s tied to a chair. I’ll be out soon.”
His second-in-command nodded and walked out.
Diego pulled on a jacket. He was topless under it, wearing only a pair of black jeans. He grabbed his switchblade and walked out of the office.
