Rex was a handsome man. Despite that, he looked dangerous. A scar ran through his dark-brown eyebrow. He had tattoos on his tanned neck and fingers. There had to be more under his clothing.

“Would you die for Wolf?” Diego asked.

Rex didn’t say anything as he watched Diego. He wasn’t the same as the other guards in the mansion. It seemed he was valuable to Wolf, like a friend. Diego had come to that conclusion because Rex and Wolf worked well together. They behaved like they had known each other for a long time.

“Of course, you would,” Diego said, smirking. He plucked a strawberry from the bowl and brought it to his lips. They made eye contact, and Diego sucked slowly on the strawberry, savoring the sweet taste. Diego finished the fruit and leaned back on his elbows, revealing his bare torso. “Wolf’s got you on a leash.”

Rex smirked. He didn’t seem bothered at all. Diego waited for Rex to say something, but there was only silence.

Diego huffed. He wasn’t going to get anywhere with this guy. “Not the talkative type, huh?”

“You should let the kid go,” Rex said.

“Why do you care about him?” Diego asked. “He’s the boss’s son, so what?”

They watched each other for a moment before Rex turned and left the bedroom, closing the door behind him. Diego sat in the bed, staring at the door for a while before he picked up the tray and ate the rest of his breakfast.

Once he finished eating, he showered. Diego stood in front of the foggy mirror, a towel wrapped around his waist. He pushed his light brown hair back with his fingers, some strands falling over his eyes.

Staying with Wolf wasn’t going to work. This had gone on for too long, and there was no need to keep Levi away from his father anymore.

Diego dressed and stepped out of the bedroom. He walked down the hall and found a guard. “Take me to Wolf.”

Wolf leanedhis lower back against the desk, a glass of whiskey in his hand.

Diego walked into the office and stood before Wolf. “I shouldn’t have taken Levi,” Diego said, looking away. “So I’ve made up my mind.”

Wolf placed the glass on the desk and crossed his arms over his chest, staying quiet as he watched Diego.

“I’ll call my men and get them to let Levi go. I don’t want your money anymore. I want to leave.”

“Why did you change your mind?” Wolf asked. “I thought you needed the money.”

Diego heaved a sigh. “I’ll get the money another way.”

“You never told me what the ransom was for.”

Diego released a heavy exhale. “I want more money for power, so I can put it into my gang. There’s no point in dragging this thing out. I’ll get what I need elsewhere.”

“So you went ahead and turned me into an enemy over money,” Wolf said simply.

“Well, things change now, yeah?” Diego said, looking more agitated. “I’m giving your kid back so stop asking so many questions. I want togo.”

Wolf didn’t say anything. After a moment, he pushed off the desk and rounded it, pulling open the drawer. He pulled out Diego’s burner phone and looked at him as he handed over the phone.

“I forgive you, Diego. But there’s something we need to agree on before I let you go.”

A small smirk twitched at the corner of Diego’s lips. He looked pleased to have the guarantee of leaving. Wolf couldn’t deny that there was something charming about that look. He might have spent only a short time with Diego, but Wolf had already gotten used to the gang leader’s presence. Wolf guessed that it would be difficult to keep his mind away from Diego, especially the time they’d spent in bed.

Diego’s eyes remained on Wolf, and they held each other’s gaze. As Wolf observed Diego, he realized that he had overlooked the gangster’s youth. His worry about Levi had left him feeling resentful that Diego had taken his son away from him. But Wolf was attracted to Diego, there was no doubt about it. And it was more than that which drew Wolf to him. The mental strength and endurance Diego naturally possessed was what Wolf admired the most.

Now that he was getting past his indignation towards Diego, Wolf was coming to accept him. Diego was not a part of Wolf’s world in any sense. But he was a force that had come into his life at a time Wolf had not expected it. They were complete opposites, taken from the same cloth and then separated, then brought back together—only for the same thing to happen again.

Wolf wouldn’t hesitate to let Diego leave so long as his son was returned to him. They would go their separate ways. But Wolf already knew that it would be difficult to truly let Diego go. Sure, he would let the gang leader leave and go free as Diego wanted. Except Wolf instead wanted to bring Diego further into his life. Although Diego had given him a hard time, Wolf enjoyed having him in the most intimate way.

He didn’t want a passive man or woman. He wanted Diego. But Wolf knew that he couldn’t rush this. He’d need to give them time apart first. During that time, Wolf would keep an eye on the gang leader.
