“They’re coming through the door now,” Code said quietly in their ears. “Looks like a hotel worker, but the hallway is too dim to tell.”

They all waited and listened as the footsteps grew louder. Rogue listened carefully, and figured that whoever it was, they weren’t large, based on the quiet sound of their feet. He reached into his waistband and pulled his gun, equipped with a suppressor, keeping it pointed to the floor, but ready if whoever walking by was stupid enough to try and come in here.

They all tensed when the footsteps stopped just outside the door. Code was silent in their ears, but they all knew he was watching the feed. Finally, the person moved on, and they heard the service exit door open and close with a bang. “Fuck,” Trax breathed.

“He looked at the door,” Code said softly, “but I couldn’t get a read on his face so not sure if he heard you or not. Either way, he’s gone, and no one else is coming down the hall so you’re clear to get out and move towards the target.”

Before they could move, Fury cursed, making them pause. “Stepped on something,” Fury growled. “Turn on the light, so I can make sure it’s not anything I need to worry about.”

Rogue, being closest to the door, flipped the switch, but as soon as the lights came on, they all froze and cursed. The livid anger in the room was palpable as they stared at the room full of large dog kennels, stacked on top of each other with chains in each one, and old looking bottle feeders that one might see in a hamster cage.

“Motherfucker,” Savage hissed, fists clenching at his side.

They didn’t need to be told what these cages were for. Rogue knew, just looking at them. He stepped forward, each step heavy, as he went to the closest one and saw blood still stained the pan on the bottom of the cage. There was blood on the chain, and some blonde hair was stuck in some of the links.

It made his stomach boil with the need to destroy it. The need to burn it all to the fucking ground, along with every last monster who had done this to these men, women, and children. His mind filled with images of Scarlett and the girls being stuffed in one of these crates. He was riding a thin edge, and he was very close to going over and not caring about the consequences.

“I’ll kill them,” he told the men menacingly, as he slowly turned around. “And I’m going to enjoy doing it.”

“You and me both, brother,” Fury snarled, eyes dark and flinty.

“Let’s get out of here and get this done,” Savage ordered. “Code, look into the hotel owners again. There is no way they don’t know about this, which means they’re in on it too.”

“Already on it,” Code answered. “I’ll let you know as soon as I have anything.”

Rogue followed them out, even as he glanced behind them at the cages one more time. No one would ever be in those cages again, because he was going to make sure of it.

They made their way through the hotel, and now that they were inside, Rogue realized a couple of things pretty quickly. The doors in the back section had locks on the outside. With each step it was more and more apparent that this hotel wasn’t just a hotel. It was the base of operations where not only were they keeping people in cages, but also in these rooms.

There was no controlling the darkness inside him anymore. They would have to check all these rooms and get these people out somehow. Then, then, he was going to burn it to the ground.

“Code, are there cameras in those rooms?” Fury asked quietly, his mind obviously on the same path.

“Nothing,” Code answered grimly.

They found a stairway at the back of the hall and headed to the top floor. The only noise was the sound of their boots on the concrete steps, but Rogue was listening for anything else. He wouldn’t be surprised if someone was guarding the door, but he was ready for it.

When they reached the top floor, Fury went through first. Rogue was right behind him, gun up and ready. Surprisingly, no one was in the hall. The hall was lavishly decorated with dark rugs and fancy looking wallpaper. This wasn’t a floor that would be used for everyday guests. This was for Tanya Jordan or any other high up henchman that stayed here.

Which was probably why they didn’t have security up here, he thought with a sneer. They thought they were safe. That no one would be able to get up here. “Which room, Code?” Rogue asked softly.

“First door on your right,” he replied. “They’re still in there. Ms. Jordan is still losing her mind at them, so I’m sure they’ve landed on her shit list for something.”

“Well then it’s time we break up the party,” Savage said with a cool smile, eyes flashing with anticipation.

“The door is an electric lock, but I’ve already hacked in and unlocked it,” Code told them, and Rogue could vaguely hear him clicking away on his keyboard.

They all exchanged grim smiles, but they were ready.

Rogue took point, and no one stopped him. He threw the door open, gun drawn. The woman screamed in surprise, while both men turned in shock, reaching for their guns. Unfortunately for them, Rogue and Fury were faster. Rogue was on Club in seconds, punching the man hard in the face, driving all his anger through the scumbag’s temple.

Club fell to the ground, out in an instant. The other man was trying to fight Fury, but they didn’t call him that for nothing. The man was out within minutes, face battered, even as Savage and Trax watched from the doorway, guns trained on the shocked woman standing near the bed.

Looking at the woman, Rogue straightened and took her in. In person, she didn’t appear anything like he had thought she would. Since the other day, she had dyed her hair, and it looked like she had done something to her face, but he couldn’t figure out what. She looked like her photo if they really looked at her, but a quick glance, and they’d probably look right past her.

Until he looked into her blue eyes. Darkness recognized darkness, and it definitely recognized evil.

Tanya looked at him, gaze cold. “Gentlemen,” she said sweetly. “To what do I owe this pleasure?”
