REVENGE
Carrera
Sunday morning, Jericho parked in front of Elwood Tosh’s house. The front windows were wide open. Carrera looked inside, but couldn’t see anyone.
As the three made their way to the front door, Tosh yelled. “Shut your damn mouths and stop your fucking crying.”
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Carrera pounded on the front door.
Seconds later, Tosh answered.
“We’re here to take the children.” Carrera bulled his way past Tosh and strode into the house.
The children were sitting on the living room floor, crying. When the little boy saw them, he lifted his hands toward Carrera. Carrera’s heart overflowed with love as he swept the youngster into his arms.
“Hey, Owen.” Carrera smiled at him. “You ready to get outta here?”
Owen stopped crying.
Jericho crossed his arms, glared down at Tosh. “Where’re their things?”
Tosh pointed. “Upstairs.”
Slash picked up Layla. “Hi, Layla. You ready to leave with Owen?” She wiped the little girl’s tears from her cheeks.
Carrera smiled at both children, despite the fury that raced through him.
Carrera and Slash stood in the foyer while Jericho walked up the short staircase with Tosh. A few minutes later, he returned with a small duffle bag and a suitcase. “I got the clothes. Let’s get ‘em the hell out.”
“I’ve got great news,” Slash said.
“What’s that?” Tosh asked.
“Would you to foster like a fifteen-year-old girl?” Slash asked.
Tosh’s face lit up. Carrera and Jericho exchanged glances.
“Sounds perfect,” Tosh said. “When’s she coming by?”
“I’m going to rush the paperwork through,” Slash said. “How ‘bout I bring her by tonight.”
“Can’t wait,” Tosh said.
“It’ll be late, after eleven,” Slash explained.
“Perfect,” Tosh said. “I’ll get her all tucked into her new bed.”
A growl rumbled from the depths of Carrera. He wanted to wrap his hands around Tosh’s throat and kill him himself.
“We’ll see you then.” Slash smiled at Layla before the three left the home.
At the SUV, Jericho placed their things in the back, then walked over to the children. “Hi, Owen. Hi, Layla. I’m Jericho. You’re going to stay with me and my wife, Liv, and our son Liam.” Jericho smiled at the kids. “You ready to head to your new home?”
They strapped the children into the car seats. Jericho pulled two sippy cups from a cooler. After smiling at the kids, he said, “Who’s thirsty for water?”
