Both he and Aurora were on their feet and following Xavier at vampire speed back into the center of their community. Thankfully, they had a doctor, and Emma, Decker’s mate, was a nurse. Between the two women, they had created a rather nice clinic which was currently being adding on to so they could have room for more beds in case they were needed. Wolfe understood that, if necessary, the group could, and had gone back to site R, where they had better facilities. Thank goodness for Kayla’s ability to open portals.

It wasn’t long before they reached the clinic, where he stepped onto the small porch. Xavier and Aurora stopped in the grass. He turned and looked at his mate.

“Are you not coming in?”

“This is your moment.”

“No, this is our moment. Mine, yours and Luna’s. You are about to become a stepmother, and I know Luna wants you there.”

She smiled and ran up the stairs. “Thank you for including me.”

“You are the love of my life.” He slipped his hand into her hers. “Your blood runs through my veins and mine through yours. Only death will tear us apart. Now, let’s go help welcome a miracle into this world.”

They both entered the clinic and found Emma there to greet them.

“She’s in the back. Doc says this is progressing fast. I need to get back to her, as my magic is the only pain relief we can offer.”

They followed Emma to the back, where there was a room set up for delivering the baby. Wolfe moved to Luna’s side while Aurora went to her other.

“Can I do anything for you?” he asked as he took her hand. “Crush my hand if you need to.”

“Thanks for coming, you guys. Emma has been keeping most of the pain away.”

“Luna, it’s time to push, hon,” the doctor said.

“Okay.” Luna squeezed Wolfe’s hand, leaned forward and pushed, letting out a scream.

“This is going to be a big baby, Luna.”

“I know.” She looked at Wolfe. “I feel like it’s a boy.”

“As long as both of you are heathy, I don’t care if I have a son or daughter.”

But I can tell by your emotions a son would make you very happy.

He glanced over at his mate and offered her a smile.A son would indeed make me very happy.

Luna pushed again, beads of sweat forming on her forehead and running down her face. Aurora grabbed a cloth from a nearby basin of water, wrung it out, and wiped Luna’s face.

“Thank you,” she huffed between words. “I’m so tired.” She relaxed back into her pillow.

Wolfe didn’t miss the exchange between the Doc and Emma. Emma grabbed a blood pressure cuff and wrapped it around Luna’s arm.

“I’m just going to check your blood pressure while you relax for a moment.”

“Okay.”

When Emma was done, she removed the cuff and patted Luna on the arm but said nothing because the doctor said it was time to push again. This time Wolfe helped Luna sit up and braced her back while she gave it all she had.

“The head is crowning!”

Luna yelled, then fell back, her eyes filled with exhaustion. Wolfe was no expert, but he sensed something was wrong. Luna had only begun the birthing process, and she looked like she had been at it for hours. Was it because of the size of the baby? They were all in unfamiliar territory. He looked at the doctor.

“Be upfront with all of us. How is she doing compared to a normal birth?”

Linda looked up. “I have only been trained to deliver babies. Never actually did it as I didn’t go into OBGYN as my specialty. However, from what I know, I would say the fact this baby is likely at least half vampire may be the cause. Her body has been under strain from the fact the child grew faster than normal. I hate to move her, but maybe we should have gone to site R.”

Wolfe understood the medical facility there was better than any they had here. “Why didn’t we?”
