“Honestly, she went into labor so fast we didn’t have time to even consider it. Another reason this is making her extra tired.”
“Can we safely move her now?” He had a mental link to the other primordials thanks to the exchange of blood they had.
“I think it’s best. We have actual equipment there.”
“Done. I’ve already called Ryder. Kayla and Jag both are on their way.”
CHAPTERTWENTY-ONE
They had movedLuna on a gurney and now had her in a bed and hooked up to monitors at site R. Wolfe was impressed with what he had seen thus far. There was an actual mini hospital on site and how convenient they could portal here when needed.
According to the monitors, Luna’s blood pressure was low, but her heart rate was good. While the doctor was a little concerned about the low blood pressure, she had said it was at the “keep an eye on” level and not critical. That only made Wolfe feel slightly better.
“Are you doing okay?” Aurora slid in next to him and slipped her arm around his waist.
“I don’t know. Something still feels off to me.” They were currently outside the room where Luna was while the doctor examined her. Things were not moving along as Linda thought they should.
“Off how?”
“I don’t know how to explain it.”
“Do you feel like the baby is in danger?”
“Maybe? Or, perhaps it’s Luna or both. I just have this feeling here.” He stabbed at his gut.
His mate nodded. “All right. What does it tell you, you should do?”
Just then, Lilith appeared, and Wolfe was actually grateful to see her. It had been the demon who had come to everyone’s rescue, and he no longer doubted her intent.
“Do we have a baby yet?” she asked as she walked toward them.
“No. The doctor is examining Luna now,” Aurora replied.
The demon looked between them. “Why are you not in there with her? The baby needs its father to guide it into the world.”
“What do you mean?” Wolfe asked, his instinct now kicking into high gear because the words she spoke made sense to him, yet he had no idea why.
“Demon fathers are always present at the birth of their child. It is they who speak to the babe and offer them comfort to welcome them into the world.”
“Why are we just now hearing of this?” His mate held irritation in her voice.
Lilith shrugged. “I didn’t think of it until now. It’s not every day a vampire is born.”
Wolfe asked no more questions. Instead, he strode through the door of the room, his heart breaking at how small and fragile Luna appeared.
“I’m afraid we may have to do a c-section. The baby is just too big to come out on its own.” The doctor moved closer to him and leaned in. “I’m afraid for Luna. I don’t like her vitals right now and we need to get that baby born soon!”
He nodded. “Agreed. I’m here to assist.” Acting on pure instinct, he walked to the side of the bed and placed his palms on Luna’s very large stomach. Aurora had come in and took the chair on the other side. She pressed a cool cloth to Luna’s forehead.
“Are you ready to have this baby?” he asked.
“God, yes. I just want to sleep.” Luna’s lashes fluttered, but she kept her eyes open.
“All right then. Get ready to push when you feel the urge. Doctor?”
Linda didn’t hesitate. She got Luna into position and then placed herself on the stool, ready to deliver the baby. Wolfe closed his eyes and opened all of his senses. He knew he was searching for a tiny being. A link that was new to him. It took only a minute before he found it. A small thread that carried the same vibration as he did. Latching on to it, he connected and when he did, it took his breath and weakened his knees.
I feel it too!His mate was a calm whisper in his mind.
