“But if something were to happen to Aimee, then all is lost.”

“Not true. The trident will simply shift and choose another, but you cannot allow anything to happen to the queen, for when Zolar is dead, his remaining power becomes hers. The queen will become the protector of Oshivana, the king its ruler.”

She rose from her seat, feeling much better. “I will not fail you, or the city.” Dropping into a deep curtsy, she spoke. “Be well sister until such time that we gain your release from this prison.”

Then she vanished back to her room in Oshivana.

* * *

Zander pacedher quarters even though he knew exactly where she was. The queen had informed him that Lysandra had gone to visit Uuna. That wasn’t what pissed him off. It was the fact she planned to enter the mortal world and had not uttered one mention of said plan.

“Hello! I am happy to see you,” she called out from behind him.

He spun, and the sight of her drained all his anger away. He rushed to her. “You do not look well. What happened?”

“I gave Uuna some of my power, is all. I will be fine in a few hours.” She grinned. “I’m certain a taste of you will help immensely.”

His cock hardened immediately, but first he needed to get a few things straight. He grabbed her hand and led her to the settee. “I am more than happy to feed you, but we must talk before fucking.”

She pushed out her lip. “Fine.”

As they both sat, he stretched his neck, and she wasted no time in striking his vein. Her hunger must have been greater than he thought, so he allowed her all that she needed. Once she had retracted her fangs and kissed his wound, she leaned back.

“What did you wish to talk about?”

“This plan you have to visit the mortal world. Again.”

She let out a sigh. “This must be where the demon freak-out Bethany mentioned occurs.”

“What?”

“Never mind. Yes, I, along with Bethany and Aimee, must go so I can see if I can locate my sister.”

“I get why you must go, but why the queen? Greydon is already having a fit over it.”

She took his hand. “I understand, but the three of us together are more powerful. I am hoping that will assist me in, at the very least, being able to pinpoint a location to find Orien’s mate. The king will have to stay here for his safety.”

“He knows that which is all the more reason he is frantic.”

“Perhaps Bethany and I can go and see what happens. I learned quite a bit on my visit with Uuna. There is more at stake than we realized.”

He raised a brow. “Something tells me this will be an incredible story.” He settled back on the settee, then pulled her into him. She snuggled right in, the perfect fit.

“This city beats with the power of a god. Uuna took Zolar’s heart while he slept and that is why he is frantic to claim Oshivana. He is dying and wants his heart back and probably revenge as well.”

“Holy shit.”

“I’m not done.”

“Fuck, there’s more?”

“We must protect the queen at all costs. Once she slays Zolar, she will gain his power. Aimee is to become the protector of Oshivana and Greydon its ruler.”

He whistled. “I’m not certain if we should share this news now or later. It’s a lot to chew on. But how do you, your sister and Bethany, come into play exactly?”

“When Thundohn died, the trident was passed to Uuna. The physical weapon holds no power, at least no longer. The queen’s protectors are the power now and when the three connect, the power will be restored, and the queen will place the final blow that will destroy Zolar. Right now, the queen is stronger than before because she has two of us, but we must find my sister before Zolar does.”

“I believe I understand.” He brushed his fingers through her hair.
