“I’m sorry,” I shake my head and pause for a moment, “But I don’t know what that is.”

“Think of it like morning sickness,” Venecia explains, “Only, it’s on steroids and lasts all day. It leaves me tired and dehydrated, making it harder than it should be to keep up with Tony and Amelia.”

“You look great for someone getting sick all day,” I blurt out.

Someday, I will learn to control my tongue when I’m nervous.

But today is not going to be that day.

“That’s what I keep telling her,” Dante tucks Venecia’s hair behind her ear and kisses her temple.

I barely know these two and the way she looks back at him leaves me envious for a relationship like theirs someday. Out of the guys I dated throughout college, not one has spoken to me or looked at me the way they pass glances at each other. Their connection is almost palpable.

“Essentially, I don’t want them to suffer because I’m too tired to do things with them all the time,” I nod at Venecia’s explanation for wanting a nanny.

“So, this is a short-term arrangement?” I question, “About a year?”

While the salary alone will financially set me up for a period of unemployment while I search for another job, I was kind of hoping to do something more long term immediately after college.

“It could be, but with Tony getting ready to start school, the baby, and this one determined to father a baseball team,” Venecia nudges Dante, “We’re going to need the extra help for a while.”

“I see.”

“The hours would mostly be during the day with occasional nights when Dante is working,” she continues, “And for your privacy, and to feel like you aren’t on the clock all the time, housing would be at the main house.”

“The main house?”

“It’s my father’s and he currently lives there alone,” she responds, “The place is so large you’d barely ever see him.”

My attention is drawn to an adorable, sleepy-faced, preschool aged boy in the archway, “Hi! You must be Tony.”

In return, I get a groggy wave as he climbs into his dad’s lap.

We spend the next hours discussing further details of the position, and I somehow walk out of their house with a six-figure job offer starting the day after graduation.

ChapterThree

ELLIE

Between finals, end of year parties, and preparing for graduation, the last two weeks of college happened in the blink of an eye.

Graduation was earlier this afternoon and it’s all officially over.

So much time and hard work, and just like that…it’s over.

The DeLuca’s have some guy named Angelo coming any time now to help me move my things from my dorm into the main house on their compound.

A knock on the door startles me, as the dorms are nearly empty.

“Ms. Taylor?” A deep voice calls my name from the other side.

Opening the door, I am greeted with the same attractive man that drove me to the interview a couple of weeks ago. I swallow hard at the sight of him.

Unlike the last time I saw him, he is extremely casual today. As hot as he was in a suit, his current shorts and well-fitted T-shirt show off nearly every rippled muscle he has. My eyes drag down his torso as I wonder if he is as ripped underneath that shirt as I am currently imagining him to be.

“Miss Taylor. The DeLuca’s sent me to help you move your things,” his words draw my attention back up to his face. When I am met with a slight smirk, I can feel a blush creep up my neck to my cheeks.

Even with how warm my face currently is, my breath hitches when my eyes lock onto the sparkling blue pools of his looking back at me.
