‘’You signed with Hierarchy…right?’’
His head instantly spun and looked at me ‘’I most certainly did not. Whatever gave you that idea?’’ he half chuckled, followed by a ‘’mmm, thank you sweetheart good choice’’ and took a large bite from one of the fresh juicy shrimps, before wiping his lips on a nearby napkin and looking back at me waiting for me to answer.
‘’Your friend Skipp’’ I said flatly.
‘’Skipp? I’m sorry Taylor I’m just not following’’ he said scooping up a few grains of couscous onto his spoon with another shrimp placed neatly on top, then looking at me again to further explain.
‘’Well, I popped by your office just before lunch like you asked me to to grab the Xeroxed files you needed -ooh which by the way I’ve already placed in order around the table in conference room B’’ I told him.
‘’Thank you angel so much, I actually forgot about that. But I’m grateful you didn’t because that’s one of the important meetings taking place later today’’ he said leaning across and pecking me sweetly on my cheek ‘’Oh I’m sorry baby, do you want some? I didn’t realize just how hungry I was sitting here working away’’ he said handing his food out to me.
‘’No no, you eat and enjoy’’ I told him ‘’so anyway while there, I decided to freshen up a little and use your restroom, as I had other excursions to do after lunch. And right as I was about to leave, your friend Skipp suddenly came in and sat down at your office desk. He must not have seen or heard me washing my hands in there, as I watched through the crack in the door him getting a little over cozy, pompously placing his feet up on your table’’
‘’Tut, the number of times I’ve asked him not to do that’’ Hudson muttered, but didn’t appear that phased by it as he continued to sit and eat his food happily.
‘’Well anyway, he began making a business call from your office desk phone, and I decided to courteously hold back in the restroom a little and wait until he was gone, before leaving myself. Now I swear to you I wasn’t eavesdropping, but I’m stating clearly right here and now that I overheard him discussing a closing deal between Tazer and Hierarchy’’ I told Hudson, whose eyes instantly appeared to turn to stone right in front of me, followed by the rest of his body stiffening as he stopped eating his food, and just sat staring at me as if trying to process the reality of my words.
‘’…I of course was more than a little surprised’’ I told him ‘’but just figured I guess as your chosen CEO, that you and he had re-discussed it all and decided to go through in the end with the merger’’
He set his food down and turned slowly in his seat to look at me ‘’No Taylor. Nothing of the sort ever transpired’’ he said, his eyes continuing to stare blankly at me in what I now detected was frozen shock, the kind steadily darkening his gaze to a still calm ahead of a very dangerous storm…
‘’Hudson, are you oka-‘’
‘’I’ll be back’’ he said all of a sudden, and flew from his seat grabbing his jacket off the hook ready to exit the suite.
‘’But wait, what abo-‘’
‘’Thank you for telling me baby, that was a good thing you did’’ he said quickly jogging back over and enclosing my face in his hands kissing my forehead, before turning and exiting out the suite with an inflamed wind chill that flew right out the door with him!
HUDSON POV:
I stood with my knuckle poised ready to knock Skipp's office door, but calmly lowered it again in essence of the magnitude a situation like this could cause…give yourself a second. If you go in with anything other than a level head right now, things could escalate and get very ugly, very quick, I sensibly warned myself.
I know in my heart Taylor wouldn’t lie to me. She had no reason to. Which uncomfortably led to the question of why my best friend Skipp, would?
I really didn’t want to believe it. He wouldn’t do something like this. And if he did, throwing gasoline on the devil’s fire was a dangerous game that could get us both burned!
In addition to what I already know, I’d privately done further research on Hierarchy after rejecting their eager offer to merge businesses, and low and behold, there was evidence linking them also to heavy sex trafficking claims on top of the child pornography scandals, along with rumors of money laundering and tax evasion. It appears our little company president Jack Roosevelt had been a busy man, invoking the vampiric mind-set of corporate greed, by using any and all means possible in raising the funding needed to get Hierarchy off the ground…yet your bitch ass still needed my company to help present yours as legit. Yeah, NOT gonna happen!
Knock knock knock…
‘’Well hello ole boy, to what do I owe the pleasure?’’ beamed Skipp opening up the door.
‘’Is it true?’’ I asked striding in past him and standing center of the room.
‘’Is what tr-‘’
‘’IS IT TRUE?!!’’ I barked, and a cold silence fell over the room as Skipp and I locked eyes, his wide with astonishment, mine narrowed with rage.
‘’I’m afraid I don’t quite know what you’re talking ab-‘’
‘’DON’T BULLSHIT ME!!!’’ I roared.
Skipp calmly closed the door and turned to me with an unperturbed neutral expression ‘’Yes, it’s true’’
I closed my eyes forcing my anger to remain at bay, before slowly opening them again…‘’why??’’
‘’Why not’’ came his candid reply, calmly walking his way over now to where I was stood and standing face to face with me, watching my brows tightly knot in confusion as well as the disbelieved shaking of my head, not wanting to accept what my ears had clearly heard him say.
