‘’Oh don’t get stuck on stupid Avery, does it really seem that improbable to you?’’ he said ‘’you knew exactly the kind of person I was when you hired me, and yet you did it anyway. And why’s that Ave, hm? I’ll tell you why…because I’m the backdoor bastard willing to get my hands dirty so yours can stay clean’’ he sneered up close in my face.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing right now.

‘’I’m sorry you see it that way Skipp, because I never did’’ I said looking him dead center in his eyes ‘’I elected you as CEO because you had both the qualifications, experience, excellent work ethic, and raw hunger in your heart to help build this business to the top, and keep it there…it’s just a shame however you left your morals at the door like a Wall Street bitch’’

‘’Mighty harsh words’’ smirked Skipp ‘’especially coming from the pussy whipped bitch I helped regain back his strength after that trailer hoe left you’’ he then took a step closer ‘’I shouldn’t have to remind you ole boy that I’ve been there for you from the beginning. When no one else had faith left in you, I was there. And I’m still here now. So yeah, I may not be perfect, but I’m damn loyal, and you’d do good to remember that’’

‘’’You betrayed me Skipp!!!‘’ I roared blowing up on him now ‘’that merger was not your fucking call to make!!’’

‘’Back out if you want’’ he shrugged calmly ‘’but I was doing my part looking out for the best interest of Tazer’s future, one which that merger deal was set to make us all a lot of fucking money from. You’d be a fool to turn your back on that’’ he hissed at me.

So help me god I had to hold my fucking nerves right now, or blood will be spilled on this very carpet!

‘’Regardless’’ I replied calmly ‘’That. Deal. Was. NOT. Your. Call. To. Make. Now if I ever, and I mean if I ever catch you negotiating a deal like that on my behalf again -one you knew full well was already rejected by me…then you will be let go from employment effective immediately’’

His eyes darkened, and the smarmy grin he wore instantly wiped from his face as he stood there looking genuinely slack-jawed.

‘’Well, I probably would have discussed it with you’’ he said, his smarmy grin slowly returning ‘’…as Mr. Roosevelt was kind enough to reach out to us again wanting to see if you’d perhaps maybe reconsider. But in my defense old boy you have been a tad bit, oh how shall we put it…‘busy’ of late’’

‘’Busy or not Skipp, this is still my company. And as chairman I’ll take or decline business dealings if and when I see fit’’ I hissed angrily ‘’and when were you even going to tell me, huh?! When every police investigator in Seattle comes banging down my door, wanting to imply me also in child pornography cases I ‘may or may not’ be associated with on account of your filthy backdoor merger?! Or how about when every trusted investor we already have loses their faith in me over my now stained name?!!’’ I roared blowing up at him again.

I didn’t at all believe in raised voices in the work office, I worked with the intelligent mind-set that we’d evolved way past the jungle and the zoo, and he knew that about me more than anyone. So for me to falter back on my belief like that with the enraged anger I was displaying, it was because I was fucking mad!!!

‘’Now, correct me if I’m wrong Skipp, because I’m having a real hard time still believing that you’d actually do something like this, knowing FULL WELL any and all big final business decisions go through me first’’ I reminded him, a disapproved frown forming on my face as I angled my head looking him up and down with disgust ‘’maybe I made a mistake appointing you as CEO, because it’s evident now you clearly can’t be trusted. And if I can’t trust you Skipp’’ I said taking a step closer to him ‘’...then you’re nothing but expendable to me.’’

‘’Expendable huh?’’ and his demeanor instantly darkened into the ravenous nature of a wild wolf…or more accurately, indicative of Seattle’s hungry elite.

‘’Well, she’s certainly tightened your balls, eh Avery?’’ he smirked ‘’because the Avery I know would stop at nothing to claw his way to the top of every lucrative money chain…and stay there’’

‘’Not through shady fucking business dealings Skipp, and you know it!!’’

‘’Don’t go getting lost in righteousness Ave, because the facts are you can’t argue with results, and I’m the big bad wolf who always makes sure to get them. Truth may sting ole boy, but you’d be nothing without me and you know it’’ he spat in a reviled manner ‘’and that’s the reason why you have me, to look whatever you can’t in the eye, and make the uncomfortable deal that makes you your very comfortable money’’

‘’You’ve actually convinced yourself what you’re saying is true, haven’t you?’’ I said looking at him in disbelief ‘’well let me tell you a little bit of my truth, because in the twelve years I’ve been in this business, never have I once needed anyone to make an ‘uncomfortable deal’ for me. And you better flip the switch and get back in your lane ‘ole boy’, because it’s you who would be nothing without me’’ I sneered at him, and with my finger now pointed dead center in his face said ‘’this shit is on you Bennett, this is ALL on you. And I want NOTHING to do with it’’

His jaw tightened in anger as he could see I wasn’t budging, same like I could see all his fantasized hopes and dreams from this phantom merger disappear right before his very eyes.

‘’Now I want you to go and undo your deal with Hierarchy, or I’ll have my lawyers do it anyway. Oh and if you’re lucky, you may still have a job in catering in the morning’’

‘’Catering? Ha ha ha, oh Avery please, you could never find anyone as good as me and you know it’’ he said with a haughty smirk.

‘’I already have’’

‘’Aah yes of course, your little charity project Taylor Wainwright, sorry, ‘PA’’’ he smirked rudely ‘’your sugar sweet gold-digging PA, all tarted up with your hard-earned money, yet still nothing worth a dime to her name’’

‘’And you better keep hers OUT your god damn mouth I am warning you!’’ I roared grabbing him up by his shirt with one hand, with my steeled fist pressed hard to his face with the other.

I watched his eyes look calmly to his left at my balled fist indenting his cheek, before looking back dead center in my eyes and smiling that elite reptilian smile at me ‘’see ole boy? We’re more alike than you think. I just know how to draw the wolf out of you faster than others have yet to learn’’

‘’Don’t paint us with the same brush, we’re nothing alike’’ I said coldly, and with a calm breath I released Skipp from my angered grip, smoothing my hands down neatly over my suit.

I hated to admit it, but he was right. My reaction just now was everything of the man I fought never to be. And it exasperated me that someone like Skipp Bennett, even for as long as I’ve known him, could bring that type of vehement reaction out of me. That said, he’d just made the biggest career mistake of his life insulting Taylor the disparaging way he did. That shit hit a fucking nerve, and it won’t be without consequence.

‘’So, this it huh? Your little plan to sabotage me in the hopes I’d spend more time here in the office with you, instead of with my love’’ I said looking across bitterly at him ‘’I’m right aren’t I? You’re jealous because you think she’s taken your place as my right hand person. I guess your speech last night was all a crock of shit too’’

‘’I don’t need to prove myself to you, or even make comment to your ridiculous theory’’ he snorted rudely ‘’I already know how good I am. The question is…do you?’’ and we stood looking across at each other, a tankful of weaponed words ready to fire in a gentleman’s game of Last Man Standing.

‘’Forever chasing the next dopamine hit, huh Skipp’’ I said with a calm gaze.
