After Jack spoke, the assailant clamped his hand around the back of her neck while he shoved the barrel of the gun against her temple.

“This is the Campus Killer,” Jacqueline announced.

Oh, Jesus.

Slowly, Prescott removed the Glock from the holster tucked under his arm, inside his sport coat. From his second-story position, Prescott was twenty feet away, but he didn’t have a clean shot. Jacqueline’s head was too close to the killer’s. If he hit the motherfucker in the head, the bullet could pass through him and into her.

Fuck.

Then, Prescott removed the Glock from his ankle holster. Hawk held out his hand and Prescott gave him the second weapon.

“Tell everyone how we know each other,” the killer shouted.

“He abducted me a decade ago, but I escaped,” she said, her voice trembling. “I was the one who got away.”

A terrifying hush fell over the room. Everyone was transfixed on them.

“Because of me, he stopped killing,” she continued.

“That’s only half the story,” he continued. “Tell them my name, honey.”

“Ouch,” Jack said. “Stop squeezing my neck. His name is Lou.”

“Lou’s my nickname. What’s my real name?”

“Luam.”

“Spell it,” Lou barked. “Backwards.”

“M-a-u-l.” Jacqueline turned in his direction.

“What the fuck are you looking at, bitch?” Maul slapped her face.

Jesus, this is bad.

“I’ve got a grudge to settle,” Maul said. “Where’s Luck?”

Both Sin and Dakota stepped forward.

“What the hell are you doing?” Dakota asked his twin.

“Saving your ass,” Sin bit out.

“You’re not helping,” Dakota snapped.

“I’ll take you both out if you don’t shut the fuck up!” Maul screamed.

Prescott needed to move so he could get a better angle, but he was concerned the floor would creak. If he fired his weapon now, he risked killing Jack.

Prescott took a step and stilled.

“I got you,” Hawk whispered.

“Dakota, you and me, we used to be friends. We had each other’s backs on missions.”

“Until you shot up a houseful of innocents,” Dakota growled.

“Then, you, Grimes, and Whelan all testified against me,” Maul said. “I vowed to get my revenge. It’s time to die.”
