That Lou guy creeped me out. Just do it.
“I’ll move in, and I’ll stay in the first-floor bedroom.”
His smile sent a blast of heat through her. “We’ll grab your things and get you in here tomorrow.”
“Thank you for letting me stay here.”
“I got you.” His kiss made her traitorous heart soar. She had it so bad for this man. But she’d continue to play things chill, let him think shedidn’tlike him.
As much as she wanted to stay in his bed, it was almost six in the morning. “I’m gonna get out of here before Ethan wakes up.”
“The bathroom downstairs is fully stocked or you’re welcome to shower with me.” His lips curved into a tempting smile.
She kissed him, letting her lips linger on his. So much passion flowed between them, it was hard to separate.
After throwing on her clothes, she hurried downstairs, passing a conked-out Loki before entering the first-floor master suite. The bedroom was large, the king bed’s luxurious gray comforter beckoning. But it was time to work, so she locked the door, stripped down, and walked into the spacious bathroom.
Her head was buzzing from being with Prescott. They vibed on a whole different level.
As the hot water sluiced her, she reminded herself to keep her emotions in check. Falling in love with him would be easy. It could also be a mistake. They had a job to do, and she couldn’t allow her feelings to get in the way of that.
After she dried her hair, she pulled on yesterday’s clothes, then found Prescott in the kitchen making a fresh pot of coffee. His hair was still wet and he’d dressed for work in black suit pants and a bright white shirt that made his tan pop.
Eye candy for days.
“Did you find what you need?” he asked.
“Absolutely. If I’m up before you in the morning, and I need to take Loki out—”
“I’ll add you to my security system,” he replied.
After taking her photo and uploading it, they recorded her voice, then he scanned her retina.
“You’re all set,” he explained.
Loki padded over, his tail swishing back and forth.
She knelt and rubbed him. “Loki, you did so good with Ethan, yesterday.” After rising, she said, “Computer, turn off the security system.”
“Good morning, Jacqueline, system is off,” said the computer.
“Thank you for making me feel at home,” she said to Prescott. “I’ll take Loki out.”
She hooked his leash, and outside they went. It was a beautiful morning, so she walked him down the quiet cul-de-sac and back. When she walked up Prescott’s driveway, he was sitting on his front steps, sipping his coffee.
Her heart blossomed.
“Just making sure you’re safe.” He held out a small plastic baggie. “Do you need this for Loki?”
She took it. “He didn’t poop, but he will.”
“Hey, Loki.” Prescott’s deep rumbling voice thundered through her like an earthquake.
How could one man possess so much raw sex appeal?
He patted the frisky puppy, then pushed off the step. His penetrating gaze locked with hers and the familiar zoom of butterflies whirled in her tummy. It was exciting to be around him, thrilling to work with him, and downright terrifying to think that he could shatter her heart into a million pieces if his feelings didn’t coincide with hers.
He shot her a smile, and her heart skipped a beat. “You ready to get to work, boss?”
