Hawk nodded.
“That’s great. See you then.” She hung up.
Hawk pulled into the garage. After cutting the engine, he wrapped his hand around her thigh. “After you get back from happy hour, we’ll have the evening to ourselves.” He hitched a brow. “What should we do?”
“Celebrate,” she replied. “All night long.”
AT FIVE-FORTY, ADDISON walked into the upscale lobby of Liliana’s high-rise condo building, near the Navy Yard in Southeast DC.
Liliana was dressed in a white maxidress, her dark hair pulled into a pretty updo. Smiling broadly, she hurried over and hugged Addison. “Thanks for coming. Let’s head upstairs to our table.”
* * *
Hawk parked in ALPHA’s lot, grabbed his laptop bag, and walked to the retina scanner on the back door. He wanted to share his good news with Cooper and report his relationship with Addison to HR. The light turned green and he breezed inside. He wound his way through the building ‘til he got to his boss’s office.
Cooper was working at his desk. His brother, Prescott, was at the conference table, head down, focused on a cell phone.
“Hey, when’d you get back?” Hawk asked his brother.
“Just now.” Prescott pulled him in for a hug.
Hawk laughed. “Why are we hugging it out?”
“Cooper told me that Tommy tried to kill you,” Prescott said.
“Prescott lost it,” Cooper added. “If Tommy wasn’t already dead, Prescott would have wasted him.”
“My big brother loves me,” Hawk said before eyeing the cell phone. “Whatcha doin’ with that burner?”
“I need your software,” Prescott said.
“We found it at Tommy’s,” Cooper replied.
Hawk pulled out a cable, connected the phone to his laptop, sat down, and got to work. After he started his program, he eyed the guys.
“I got engaged,” Hawk stated, matter-of-factly.
Both men stared at him.
Cooper chuckled. “No, you didn’t. He’s messing with us.”
Prescott broke into a grin. “No, he’s not. Congratulations, Nicky!”
“Addison and I got close,” Hawk said. “When I thought I was gonna die in that freezer, I didn’t want to live another moment without her.”
“It’s always been you two,” Prescott said. “But you weren’t ready.”
“I’m super happy for you,” Cooper said extending his hand.
“Life is good,” Hawk said.
Prescott smiled. “I’m happy to hear you say that, Nicky.”
“Me, too, brother.”
Ding!
Hawk’s software program had unlocked the burner. He unplugged it from the cable and handed it to Prescott.
