As they gazed into each other’s eyes, she smiled. “You’re right. We got this.”

Before leaving their office, she asked, “Did you run the report?”

“It’s running. I hung back to see if the program would catch something right away, but I got nothing. Maybe that’s good news. Maybe you’re safe here, like you said.”

“Tommy is here, and Liliana asked if she could take a break,” Addison said.

“I’ll work the bar with you.” He kissed her forehead. “We good?”

“Yeah.” One more kiss and they returned to the bar.

“I’ll be back in thirty,” Liliana said with a sly smile.

She and Tommy headed into the fray.

Addison got busy waiting on a customer. Before moving to the next, she glanced over at Hawk. He stood there, frozen.

“What?” she asked.

Hawk pressed his mouth to her ear, and whispered, “They’re going upstairs.”

“So?”

“Why here?” Hawk asked.

“Why not?” Addison replied before waiting on someone else.

She wasn’t surprised Tommy was attracted to Liliana. She was tall and pretty with dark hair and beautiful brown eyes. She worked hard, was juggling a second job, and went to school.

They seemed like a better match than Tommy and Mags, but since Addison couldn’t navigate her own new relationship, she’d be the last one to judge someone else’s.

KABOOM!

Hawk killed the headlights as he drove down Addison’s street. It was after two in the morning and she needed to pick up her bridesmaid dress from her house. Since she’d been living at Hawks’, she hadn’t gotten any security alerts, but to ensure her safety, he parked at the end of the block.

They hurried down the sidewalk, she, still in her blonde wig and black mask, their Glocks at the ready. They entered her home, kept the lights off, and stayed silent. Hawk shone his phone’s flashlight as they hurried into Addison’s bedroom.

With her weapon drawn, she opened her closet. It was clear. She collected her bridesmaid dress, still in the garment bag, then placed a few things into an overnight bag. They were outta there in less than five minutes.

“I miss my house,” she said from the back seat as he drove them home.

“I like that you’re staying with me,” he replied.

“I love your home, but I’m not settled, you know? Most of my things are at my house.”

“I like that you’re living with me,” he repeated. “What do you think about that?”

Silence.

Deafening silence.

He’d said too much. Well, he wasn’t about to take it back now. Truth was, he did love her company. He wanted to see her every day. Wanted to wake up next to her and go to sleep every night holding her close.

“You okay back there?” he asked.

From the back seat, she caressed his shoulder. “I’m with you for now. We’ve gotta get past the bodyguard phase of our love affair.”
