“Who didyoulose?” Addison asked.
Liliana paused. “Someone I loved very much.” She headed toward Addison’s closed office door. “Thanks for being so understanding. I gotta get back to the bar.” Liliana left the office.
When Addison stepped into the hallway, Hawk loomed into view wearing a T-shirt that stretched against his bulging biceps and wide chest, and tattered black jeans that accentuated his massive thighs. Every cell in her body came alive while blood whooshed through her veins.
Even in the dim light, hunger radiated from his piercing eyes. Part man, part beast, he stalked his way toward her. She held her breath in anticipation of what he would do.
Kiss me.
He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulled her into the office, and shut the door. Then, he backed her against the door and peered into her eyes. The energy in the room turned electric. She wanted to jump in his arms and kiss him, then mount him. Her entire body craved his. His penetrating stare stripped her naked, but his gaze hadn’t strayed from her eyes. She couldn’t regulate her breath, couldn’t stop the need coursing through her either.
“Miss me?” he murmured.
“Oh, you weren’t here?” she quipped. “I didn’t notice.”
He dipped down to kiss her, only he didn’t. Sexy bedroom eyes drilled into hers. The energy turned frenetic, the desire to kiss him made her knees weak.
She waited to see what he’d do next. Instead of devouring her, he dropped a soft, romantic kiss on her lips, then one on her cheek. She melted from the tenderness. Then, he pulled her into his arms and held her.
“I missed you like crazy,” he murmured. “Like fucking crazy.”
Ohgod, yes. Wait… no! Don’t tell me this.
His words slayed her.
Forcing down the mounting emotion, she whispered, “We’re fuck buddies, Hawk. Friends with benefits.”
He didn’t back away, the hunger in his eyes didn’t go away either. He dipped down and kissed her again, this time deepening the embrace. She groaned into him, threw her arms around his neck, and jumped into his arms.
He wrapped her tightly and held her while the kiss turned passionate. Kissing Hawk was one of her favorite things to do. It was easy and effortless, and so damn perfect.
When he slowed the embrace, he didn’t put her down, didn’t stop staring into her eyes. “You look hot.”
That’s when her brain caught up to her eyes. He was wearing casual clothes. “What happened to your suit for our role play?” She unwrapped herself from him and he set her down. “Did you see my invitation?”
“Yeah, I did.”
“I haven’t had a second all evening. Did you reply?”
“No. We gotta talk about that.”
Her heart dipped. Leading with emotion had left her vulnerable with him. She needed to put some distance between them, so she stepped away.
“No problem.” Steeling her spine, she stood tall. “It’s been crazy, tonight.”
He furrowed his brows. “What’s been going on?”
She hated the weird vibe he was putting out. Rather than get into it with him, she pushed on.
It’s just easier this way.
“The chef called out sick,” she said. “I had to work with the cook to change up the menu, then the health inspector stopped by.”
“How’d we do?”
“She wouldn’t say. She completes her report in a week or two. Then, my sister called from Denver. Her boyfriend dumped her and she was a mess. I was on the phone with her for an hour.”
Up went his eyebrows. “An hour?”
