“I can create an engagement band that compliments your wedding band,” Nico said. “Or are you moving the engagement ring to a different finger?”

Addison studied the rings. “I’ll move the engagement to my right hand.”

After trying on several, she selected a platinum band with brilliant round diamonds, interspersed between platinum Xs.

“That looks beautiful on you, babe,” Hawk said.

“Classic and stunning,” Nico said. “Let’s measure your finger.”

Once they’d ordered the engagement band, Hawk suggested they check out all the jewelry. Several minutes later, Addison found a pair of drop heart earrings in silver that she liked. With a promise from Nico that the engagement band would be ready in a few weeks, they left the store.

On the way back to Hawk’s, Addison’s phone rang.

“I want to shut out the world for one day,” she said. “Just one day. Is that too much to ask?”

“Don’t answer it,” he replied.

She pulled out her phone. “It’s Liliana from the club. I gotta take this.” She answered. “Hi, Liliana.”

“Hey, Addison, I’m sorry to bother you, but I have news.”

NO TIME TO DIE

“What’s going on?” Addison asked.

“I got offered a job that’s related to my graduate studies,” Liliana explained. “Unfortunately, I have to resign from the club.”

“Congratulations,” Addison said. “You must be excited.”

“Absolutely,” Liliana replied. “You were so great to work for. I have a little something for you. I know it’s super short notice, but are you free for happy hour today?”

“Hang on a sec.” Addison muted the phone. “Liliana’s quitting the club. She wants to get together for a drink.”

“Go,” Hawk said.

She kissed him, then unmuted the phone. “I can make it.”

“Perfect. My condo building does this great cocktail party on the rooftop. It’s to die for. How’s five thirty?”

It was just after four.

“That’ll work,” Addison replied.

“I’ll text you the address and meet you in the lobby. Can’t wait.”

Addison hung up. “We need a GM to handle the day-to-day at the club.”

Hawk drove down his street. “I’ll put the word out about that. Let’s invite your dad to dinner this week.”

“I love that.” She dialed his number, put the call on speaker.

“Hello, dear,” answered her dad. “How’s your day going?”

“Daddy, Hawk and I want you to come for dinner one night this week. What’s your schedule like?”

“How’s tomorrow?” her dad asked.
