Tommy loomed into view.

Ah, fuck. Fuck me.

“Hey, cousin, long time no see.” Tommy chuckled. “I heard Addison was coming over here, so I let her tagalong.” He stepped close. “I told Mags I wanted to be friends. I’m checking in, you know, see how she’s doing.”

Tommy broke away to yuck it up with one of the receptionists.

Hawk wanted to tell him to leave Mags the hell alone. His being there would only mess with her head. But he wasn’t getting involved. Mags’s personal life wasn’t his business.

He slid his gaze to Addison.

“Someone’s pissed,” she whispered.

“That obvious?” he hissed. “Babe, I need you safe.”

“Iamsafe.”

“How do I know that if I have no fucking idea where you are?” There was no hiding his agitation.

She glared at him as his GM stormed into the lobby.

Mags lasered in on Tommy, narrowed her gaze, and marched over to him. “What do you want?” she barked.

“Can we talk?” Tommy asked.

Mags crossed her arms. “I’m busy.”

“I wanted to check in with you,” Tommy continued. “Make sure you’re cool.”

Tommy didn’t seem to care that everyone in the lobby was listening to their private conversation.

“Youdumpme, then you have the nerve pop over thenextfreakin’ day to check on me. How the hell do you think I am?” Mag’s razor-sharp voice rose to a fever pitch.

“We’re friends,” Tommy said. “Let’s grab lunch.”

“I liked you and you told me you really, really, really liked me. What kind of bullshitter says that?” Mags’s voice echoed through the quiet space.

“Whoa, no need to go ballistic,” Tommy said backing away.

“I don’t need friends like you. Get lost.”

Tommy glanced at the receptionist. “See ya,” he said before moseying out.

“Let’s go to my office,” Hawk wrapped his fingers around Addison’s arm and guided her to the elevator.

Mags stood at the elevator bank, her cheeks flaming red. They all rode upstairs together.

Talk about fucking awkward.

“That was embarrassing and unprofessional,” Mags said. “Sorry, boss man.”

“Don’t sweat it,” he replied.

On the top floor, after Mags veered into her office, Hawk glanced over at Addison.

She did not return his gaze.

They entered his corner office and he shut the door.
