But it wasn’t his problem. I was the High Priestess now and needed to handle business. I felt bad, but I also knew that there would always be these types of things, so if he couldn’t understand then he would have to find another more chill girlfriend.

Judging by how he was eyeing me all night like he wanted to eat me, I was thinking he could handle my busy schedule.

I also thought I deserved a night of fun with him.

We were in the courtyard with only the council members and the remaining Hemlocks that showed after the residents slowly filtered out. There was a buzz that kept folks after more than usual that had everything to do with Lavinia’s sex club, which I think I spoke for every council chair when I said we were stoked.

I wanted to find out what the gorgon could bring to the island, too. It wasn’t every day you had an experienced sex club owner move to town, and I was excited at all the possibilities she offered.

“What are you up to tonight, Patrick?” Tonya asked. She’d also lingered, despite Patrick’s insistence he had no interest in her. She always looked on point, as if every time she left the house she was trying to impress someone. She’d even worn a full face of makeup to the park last week during our training. Her platinum blonde hair was straightened and down to her shoulders. The makeup she’d applied highlighted her hazel eyes, making them look so big it was like she was a princess trapped on an island instead of a human refugee running from something like the rest of us were. I knew Tonya she was gorgeous, and I hated women who put other women down over a man, but sometimes my petty side won out. I wanted to hate her for it. She was acting way too thirsty for my man for my liking.

But I also knew her background, and therefore knew that most of her entire personality was a defense mechanism from the horrors she’d seen before finding her new home here.

I told myself that each time I wanted to unleash Lennox on her for daring to look at Patrick like she had any right to.

Get it together, Cliona. You’re a mess.

“He’s coming to the open mic night at The Brew, aren’t you, Patrick?” Arch slammed his hand on the back of Patrick’s shoulder before he could answer.

“I’m up to whatever Cliona is up to.” The surety in which he spoke made my stomach tingle. “Because I haven’t spent any time with her this week, and she needs a break.”

My heart picked up. “Who said I needed a break?” I asked, and everyone looked at me, except Tonya who didn’t bother removing her eyes from Patrick.

“He’s not wrong. You do need a break,” Guillermo said. “And you love open mic night.”

“You do?” Patrick asked, looking genuinely curious.

I forgot we still didn’t know too much about one another apart from the small tidbits one normally discussed on first dates, but I hadn’t brought up my enjoyment in watching the performances.

I shrugged. “Lennox always opens and closes. I like to see her perform.”

“The angsty little female likes to sing, does she?” Patrick asked.

“Hah!” Dom laughs, and I throw a glare at him. “Sing, she does not, brother. But you should come.”

“Well, call me curious.” Patrick looked at me as if waiting for my permission. I quirked an eyebrow at him. “I’m going wherever you go tonight,mo peata. So, you tell me where.”

Why is something as simple as him looking at me with those blue eyes and telling me to take the lead so swoon-worthy? Ugh.

“I have to stop by the shoppe first, but then I was planning on heading over to Lenn’s for the night.”

Patrick’s eyes gleamed. “I will walk you to your shoppe then escort you to this open mic night.”

“Yes, sir,” I said jokingly.

Patrick pinned me where I stood with a look that said he liked the title.

“Let’s go before they make it weird,” Arch commented and wrapped his arm around Gioia. Dom shoved him off, and Arch took a few steps back with his arms raised in surrender. “Bro, what’s your issue?”

“Don’t touch a female without them inviting it, asshole.”

“Female?” Arch looked confused. “It’s Gioia.”

“You’re such a prick, Arch.” Gioia shoved him, trying to hide her blushing cheeks at Dom’s words.

I wondered if Drew knew his sister was desperately in love with Dom.

“I’m going too, Patrick. To the open mic night. I love to sing.” Tonya sidled up closer to Patrick, and I rolled my eyes at her audacity. I could only keep the jealous bitch underneath my skin in check for so long. “Cliona can walk herself to the shoppe.” Tonya could not take a hint if it hit her in the face.
