And, wowie, wow, wow, she wouldn’t argue over that one.

He kissed her again, stroking his lips against hers and doing that tugging thing she suddenly discovered she liked.

She backed up a step, this time slowly, anticipating the bed behind her. When they reached it, she lowered herself, scooting backward and pulling the comforter back. She patted the spot beside her and he crawled across the bed, stopping at his bedside table and digging in the drawer for a second before retrieving a condom.

He did his thing with the condom, then stretched out beside her, the two of them nestled on the king-sized mattress.

Propping on one elbow, he smiled down at her, letting his gaze and his hand wander down her body, his fingers warming her as he went. She scooted closer, wanting that skin against skin again, wanting to feel her breasts against his chest.

After the day they’d had, the week they’d had, they deserved this. A few minutes to feel … relief.

Rolling to her back, she brought him with her, his weight pushing her into the mattress. Safe. Protected.

Phin propped himself on his elbows. “I don’t want to rush.”

“We’re not,” she said. “I want to know what you feel like.”

She opened her legs and his erection pressed against the inside of her thigh. She let out a gasp at the size of him. “Oh, boy!” she said, making him laugh.

Then he shifted, and she adjusted her hips, her body nearly purring with anticipation before … yes … he slid into her, the invasion at first a shock. A burst of heat and fullness and ... So good. One fluid stroke so perfect it made her think her body was made for his.

He worked his way deeper, gently moving, finding a rhythm with her, two bodies figuring it out. Exploring.

“I knew it,” he said, his breath hot on her ear. “I knew I’d love being inside you.”

She lifted her hips, pumping with him, increasing the urgency, letting the heat build, climbing, climbing, climbing. Her mind spun, and she closed her eyes, enjoying the light show as the squeeze of an oncoming orgasm nearly paralyzed her.

Opening her eyes again, she found Phin’s, the two of them holding each other’s gaze as their hips pumped and pumped.

Boom!

Her mind and body exploded, all of it happening at once. She cried out, letting go, embracing the chaotic whirl as she clamped her hands over Phin’s rear and forced her hips to keep going. To keep pumping. To help him over that fantastic edge.

His body went rigid, his movements quickening. Faster, faster, faster. The headboard banging against the wall so hard that if this kept up, they’d go right through. Thank goodness his suite was at the end of the building.

He plunged, one last time, the force of him banging the headboard again as he gritted his teeth and …

Gave in.

Maddy fellasleep in his bed.

Refusing to move, Phin stared up at a sliver of moonlight that had bullied its way through the curtains and illuminated the ceiling.

He’d been this way for a while. Afraid to move or make a sound. If he did, she’d wake up and then what? Hell if he knew what to do with a woman snoozing in his bed. Typically, they were busy doing other things. And not in his own damned house.

Casual conversation?Gee, honey, how was your day? Aside from getting shot at.

Maybe he’d suggest a 2:00 a.m. snack, hustle out of bed, and completely avoid his intimacy inadequacies.

Phin Blackwell. Relationship failure. Probably because he never had one worth changing for.

One thing was for sure, he couldn’t stay here all night with his mind whirling. Times like this, when he couldn’t shut his brain down, he left his bed and found something to occupy him. That’s what he needed. Stick to his routine of being productive. None of this pansy shit.

Time to grow a pair.

Slowly, he rolled to his side, easing the comforter off and getting his feet to the floor. Behind him, Maddy made a sound, a soft sigh that tripped his mind back to the orgasm he’d given her. The first one.Heh, heh, heh.The one before he’d fulfilled his fantasy of being on his knees in front of her. No one could ever say he wasn’t a man of his word.

Heh, heh.
