Looking down at my watch, I speak. “You’re late.”

She looks up at me, her dark ponytail following the movement of her head. “Hell of a way to greet someone who is doing you a favor. I was going to do this one free of charge, but with that attitude, I might have to reconsider.”

“You do nothing for free, Vivienne.”

She laughs, plopping herself down on the white couch. “So, big brother, tell me. What can Vivienne McBride do for you?”

“You sound ridiculous, you know that?”

Vivienne raises an eyebrow, her blue eyes heating with displeasure. I sigh. I loathe asking my sisters for help. Sure, we’re family, but that doesn’t mean I want my little sister to fix my problems. But right now, I have no other choice. I have to find the person behind all this before the problems go beyond a torched warehouse and four bodies. Vivienne is the only one with the connections and talent to pull that off. Men will spill their souls to her before they ever will with me.

“Someone set fire to one of my warehouses. I want you to find out who.”

Her spine straightens. Just as I knew it would. My sister’s and I may not see eye to eye, but at the end of the day, we’re all McBrides. An attack on one of us means an attack on all of us.

“Do you have anything for me to go off of?”

“If I did, do you think I’d be here asking for help?”

“Fair point.”

“So, can you do it?”

“Of course I can. I just need you to help me first.”

“With what?”

She stands, walking to the enormous glass walls. “See that man by the bar?”

“Yes.”

“He stole something from me. I want you to help me kill him.”

“Why do you need my help? You know how to kill a man.”

“I just got my nails done. It would be a shame to ruin them.”

I roll my eyes, knowing damn well that’s only an excuse.

“What aren’t you telling me?”

“That man down there is Luther Daniels.”

“The senator?”

“Yes, the senator.”

“Why are you really after him?”

“I told you. He stole something.”

“What did he steal?”

“A life.”

I raise an eyebrow at her for an explanation.

“Two years ago, my friend was his mistress, and she got pregnant. He killed her.”
