“Are you ok baby? I’m calling a doctor.” I see him stand to get his phone but I reach out my hand to stop him.

“I’m ok.” I manage to croak.

“Baby, you were just throwing up. You are obviously not alright.” He goes to pull away but I stop him again.

“It’s ok. Really. This kind of thing is completely natural.”

“What are you talking about? Baby, you’re not feeling well. Please just let me call someone.”

This really isn’t how I wanted to do this but I can’t have him worrying or calling a doctor. They would end up spoiling my surprise. I tug on his hands, indicating that I want him to help me up. He does so carefully, keeping one arm wrapped around me the entire time.

“I just need to grab something from my suitcase.”

He helps me into our room and I tell him to sit on the bed while I riffle through my bag until I find the onesie.

“Ok, close your eyes.”

He stares at me for a moment before complying and closing his eyes. I walk over and place the onesie in his hands before stepping back.

“Ok. You can open them.”

I watch his face as he opens his eyes and looks down at the small onesie in his hands. He unfolds it and reads the simple words written on the front.

Daddy Loves Me

His mouth opens slightly before he snaps his head up to me. All of the fear that I had slipped away when I see the look in his eyes. If I had still had any doubts they would have been gone after he lunged for me and picked me up, holding me tight while he confirmed the news.

“A baby? We’re going to have a baby?”

“Yeah. Are you happy? I know we didn’t really discuss this.”

“Baby, I’m ecstatic! I bought you maternity clothes a month ago. I was hoping that this would happen since the first time that we made love. This is the best gift. Thank you, love.”

He holds me tight for a few more minutes before he’s bounding off the bed and grabbing his phone. He calls his parents to share the good news and then his assistant to set up a doctor appointment for when we return to make sure that everything is ok. After he’s finished making his plans, he comes back over to me on the bed and climbs on next to me, resting his hand on my stomach.

“I’m so glad you walked into my casino, baby. You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me, Mrs. Hunter.”

“Back at you, Mr. Hunter.”
