“No,” I say. He knows this is the break I’ve been waiting for.

“You’ll be me when I’m not here.”

“We’ll make it work,” Reid squeezes my shoulder.

“Jenna hasn’t taken you idiots back yet,” Josh says.

Reid and I share a look.

“She will.” We both say in unison.

Mike gets his phone out and dials someone on speakerphone. “Mike, you asshole.” Adrien’s voice comes through the phone. Mike obviously woke him up.

“Did you fucking know when you made the bet?” Mike asks. He sounds angry. “All bets have always been fair.”

“I had an inkling, but I didn’t know for sure,” he laughs down the phone. “It was Sara who planted the idea in my head.”

“We agreed the girls couldn’t do any recon,” says Josh to the phone.

“She didn’t mention it to me until after we’d made the bet. She told me when I got back from New York. I was willing to keep her away from the office, as she needed to be able to keep this game up. I play to win, boys.” He laughs before hanging up the phone.

“Dom,” Josh shakes his head at me. “You couldn’t give me a heads up?”

“We needed it to look real,” I say. I’m not as good an actor as this guy.

“I don’t know, the fight looked pretty real,” Mike says, finishing his plate of food.

“Yeah, the hits were real,” Reid says, rubbing his ribs. “I still have the bruises.”

“Thanks, Dom,” Mike says, squeezing my shoulder. “He deserves to come down a peg or two. Next time you’re in Hidden Secrets, I'll sort you out with some VIP treatment. You need to tell Jax. Last I heard while we were still in New York was he was trying to do damage control.”

“I dropped him a text message before I got on the plane. I’m waiting for him to wake up and blast my ass.”

“Okay, well, you, Reid, are spending the day with me. Because I want to be with you when Jax lays into you.”

JENNA

A THOUSAND YEARS: CHRISTINA PERRI

Georgia walks into the living area, and I didn’t know she stayed in the company apartment when she was here on business. I’m curled up on the couch with a blanket around me.

“You on your way to the hospital?” I ask, not moving or taking my eyes off the screen.

“Yeah. They said he should be out by the end of the week. You know, instead of watching him on TV, you could have the real thing.”

“I know, but…”

My phone dings with a Google alert, and I know I shouldn’t have kept them on, but I did.

HollywoodNewsApp: Spotted Reid Taylor in London

I slide the app notification so it moves off my screen. They must have started filming early.

“Your flight’s early evening, right?” Georgia says.

“Yeah, I get into LAX around midnight. Adrien said he’s got a driver picking me up.”
