Maybe she could make it true if she kept faking it.

When she finally reached her room, she closed and locked the door behind her. She set the books on her bureau, cast her silencing spell, and inhaled a shaky breath as the noise from downstairs dissipated.

Bending, she rested her hands on her knees and closed her eyes. The image of that nymph on his lap popped up to haunt her.

“What am I going to do?Whydoes he have this effect on me?”

He was an asshole—a womanizing jerk who followed his dark fae instincts without caring about what he left in his wake.

But then, he didn’t have to care. Every immortal, in all the realms, knew what the dark fae were.Noneof them expected anything more than a good time from them.

And she hadn’t either. She’d known it would never be more than a onetime thing, so why did she still crave his touch, andwhycouldn’t she get him out of her head?

Tears burned her eyes, but she had no idea what to make of the emotions battering her. And since she couldn’t begin to sort them out, she decided ignoring them was her best option.

It didn’t matter what, orwho, Orin did. She was leaving this place and him behind as soon as she could. She’d been steadily saving supplies to make her move, and it was almost time to go.

She’d been dreading it but suddenly couldn’t wait to make a trip into the Barren Lands. The unknown monsters awaiting her were far preferable to this place.

Orin’s teethscraped together when Sahira closed her door. He wasn’t sure how he expected the enchantress to react to seeing him with another, but it was more than what she gave him.

He’d been thinking about her all day. At one time, he almost made the humiliating decision to go to the library to ensure she was okay.

Thankfully, when he realized what he was considering, he decided against it, but it never should have been a thought. He didn’t check on women; he didn’twantto see them once he finished with them.

That wasnothis way.

And once he realized this woman was getting to him, he’d become determined to prove it wasn’t true. Sure, he wanted and would have her again, but he’d have plenty of others in between too.

He wasnotabout to tie himself to one woman for any length of time, not even for two days in a row. Sahira would know that, and so would he.

Now, he’d made his point to himself and her. No woman got under his skin. Sahira would see she wasn’t anything special.

A niggle of doubt tickled the back of his mind. Was I wrong to do this?

His being wrong about anything was an extremely rare occurrence, but it happened from time to time. Something strange had passed between them, and somethingwasdifferent about her.

He couldn’t explain what it was or put a finger on it, but there was a reason why she wasn’t far from his mind today. He couldn’t deny he liked the witch as more than a way to get off. She was smart, stubborn, and stronger than almost everyone he’d ever met before.

She could have easily sat and whined about her bloodline and the unfairness of the way the witches treated her. She could have let fear rule her, stayed hidden in her room after Radagast’s attack, or refused to go anywhere alone.

Many would have cowered and broken from far less, but she kept going with a determination he admired. Yes, she was different, and it was driving him nuts.

He nudged the nymph off his lap, ignoring her little moan of protest as she jiggled her very lovely breasts in his face.

There was a time when his dick would have jumped in appreciation and he would have fucked her on the stool; she’d made it clear she was more than up for it. But apparently, that time was not tonight.

It’s only because my dick hasn’t recovered from last night yet.But he’d done it before without any problems, and if Sahira was squirming all over his lap, he was sure he could do it again. Which only pissed him off.

The nymph was sexy and one of the few women he hadn’t been with in this realm; he should have been all over her. Instead, he wasn’t in the mood.

Besides, he had work to do. Something Belda made clear as she glowered at him from the end of the bar while pouring bourbon across the glasses set up before her.

Orin strolled behind the bar to start helping again. As he set up more glasses, his eyes returned to Sahira’s room.

He didn’t expect to see her again tonight but wondered what she was doing. Maybe he’d go to her room after work.
