As we board the small boat that will take us out into the bay, Amber turns to me with a grin.
“Can you believe how incredible this is?” she exclaims.
I chuckle, “Yeah, it’s pretty amazing.”
She turns back to her phone, tapping away at the screen, trying to get the perfect shot. I can tell she’s happy with the photos because she turns back to me and shows me the screen. The photo is stunning. It captures the moment perfectly.
“Wow, that’s incredible,” I say, genuinely impressed.
“Thanks, I’m glad you like it,” she replies, looking back down at her phone.
As we continue on the tour, the water becomes even more alive with the bioluminescent plankton. Every movement creates a bright blue trail behind us, and it’s an incredible sight to see.
We both lean over the side of the boat, our hands trailing through the water, and the plankton lights up in response. It’s a magical experience, and I’m glad I’m sharing it with Amber.
“Can you imagine how many likes this is going to get?” Amber muses, still tapping away on her phone.
I shrug. “Who knows? But at least we’ll have the memories.”
Amber nods in agreement, finally putting her phone away and turning to me.
“You’re right. This is an experience I’ll never forget.”
We sit in silence for a moment, just taking it all in. The only sound is the gentle lapping of the water against the boat.
As we head back to shore, I can tell she is already thinking about her next post. I’m just happy to have shared this moment with her, even if it’s just for a few hours.
As we step off the boat, Amber turns to me with a smile.
“Thanks for coming with me tonight, Jackson. It was so special.”
I smile back. “Of course. I had a great time.”
We arrive back at the hotel, and Amber turns to me. “Hey, let’s grab a quick drink at the bar.”
I nod in agreement, and we head to the bar. The bartender greets us with a smile and asks what we’d like.
I order a beer, and Amber opts for a frozen daiquiri. We take our drinks and find a table in the corner of the bar. Amber takes out her phone, scrolling through the photos and videos she took on the tour. “I can’t wait to edit these and share them on all my platforms,” she says.
I nod. “I’m sure they’ll be amazing.”
She looks up at me. “You know, I couldn’t have asked for a better tour buddy tonight. You were so patient with me taking all those photos.”
I smile. “Hey, what are friends for?”
She takes a sip of her daiquiri, “You know, we make a pretty good team. Maybe we should collaborate on some content together.”
I raise an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, we could do a travel series or something. You’re a pilot, and I have the visual content. It could be something big,” she explains.
I’m taken aback by her suggestion. “Really? You think we could do something like that?”
She nods enthusiastically. “Definitely. We both love to travel, and we could share our experiences with the world. Plus, we could make it something really special.”
I don’t have the heart to tell her that flying is just something I do to keep busy, to keep me still rooted in army life even from miles away. I don’t tell her that it reminds me of her. My sparrow. Or that I am working with her father, that this is all a favor I am doing him because we are working on an investment plan together. I don’t tell her any of that.
Instead, I pretend to consider her proposal. “I don’t know, Amber. I’m not sure I’m cut out for the influencer life.”
