“Goodnight, Amber,” I reply, watching as she enters her room and closes the door.

As I enter my room, I can’t help but replay the events of the night in my mind. The way Amber looked in that bikini, the tension between us, and the relief when we finally laughed together. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions, but somehow, I’m enjoying every moment of it.

The room is cool and dark, the air conditioner humming quietly. I quickly change into some comfortable clothes and flop onto the bed, letting out a sigh.

As I lay there, I think about what I shared earlier. I don’t usually talk about my time in the army, let alone what happened during it. But for some reason, I felt compelled to share it with her. I just hope it doesn’t scare her off.

I grab a book from my bag and start to read, hoping to distract myself. But my mind keeps wandering back to Amber and the way her smile lit up her face. I can’t wait to see her again tomorrow.

I am startled by the knock on my hotel room door. I check my phone and see that it’s already past midnight. Who could be at my door at this hour? I think it might be Amber, or maybe it’s Liv, finally rising from where she went hiding all day. I swear that girl is a vampire.

I hate loud, abrupt noises and if the person on the other side is anyone else other than Olivia resurfacing from dreamland, then I am going to be real mad at them.

I stand up and cautiously make my way to the door. I take a deep breath and open the door. My jaw drops when I see Amber standing in front of me. I had an inkling it would be her, but that doesn’t stop my heart from jumping somersaults in my chest.

“Amber, what’s up?” I ask, feeling a mix of slight confusion and excitement.

“I’m sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to talk. Is now a good time?” she asks, biting her lip nervously.

I motion for her to come inside and close the door behind her. “Of course, come on in. Is everything okay?”

“I saw the lights were still on from under your door…”

“No. It’s all right. I really don’t mind,” I reassure her.

She walks past me and sits on the edge of the bed, her back facing me. I walk towards her, unsure of what to say or do. This is so reminiscent of the first night she came to my hotel room. Instead of being an absolute terror like I was then, I decided to take a different approach. Like I said, growth!

I notice how beautiful she looks in the dim light of the room. Her hair is still damp from what I assume is because of her time in the jacuzzi, and she’s wearing a loose-fitting sundress that flatters her figure perfectly.

“Can I get you a drink?” I offer, breaking the silence.

She smiles and nods. “Sure, that would be great.”

I head over to the minibar and grab a couple of beers. As I hand one to her, our fingers brush against each other, and I feel a jolt of electricity run through my body.

I sit down next to her, and I try to think of something to say. Something that will not have her scrambling out of here. Truth be told, I like having her in my space.

“Everything ok, Amber? Last time you visited my room, we almost came to blows.”

She chuckles at the antiquated expression, and I am surprised that the low rumble of that sound settles somewhere in my solar plexus. I really could get used to that sound. I like a lot of things about this woman.

“I promise I am not about to ask you to ground the plane again.”

“Good. I know we are here for a couple of days.”

“Yep. Still on schedule. I am going to ask you a kind of weird favor.”

What could she possibly want? In my room? In the middle of the night? Wearing nothing but that flimsy outfit? I gulp audibly, almost choking on my beer. “What, uhm, what do you need, Amber?”

She licks her lips suggestively, her tongue picking the tiny droplets forming on her upper lip in a suggestive motion.

The sight makes the blood rush to my groin.

She locks her beautiful emerald eyes at me. “What would you think about horses? Specifically, riding horses with me at sunrise tomorrow morning?”

Now, that was the last thing I expected to come out of her mouth. Her gorgeous, plump, kissable mouth.

All I can muster to ask is, “What?”
