“Come on, Duchess, let’s get you back in bed.”
“I just want to go home.”
“I know, baby, soon.”
“Will you lay with me?”
“Of course.” I led her back into the room and closed the door behind me. After helping her back into bed so that she didn’t hurt her shoulder, she wiggled a little bit to make room for me. Lying beside her, she rested her head against me and closed her eyes.
ChapterFifteen

It had beena couple of days since the accident, and it was safe to say I was going out of my mind with boredom. My doctor hadn’t cleared me to go back to work, so I was on bed rest until my shoulder healed, and I wasn’t happy about it. I was still staying with Austin, but I was sleeping in his spare room. He didn’t want to wake me when he left for work and honestly, it was easier this way. We didn’t want to blur that line. Things were already complicated. Mom and I hadn’t spoken since I had left their house. I had called my dad to tell him about the accident so that he didn’t hear it from anyone else. I had also let him know when I was out of the hospital. Maybe my mom and I would patch things up, but right now, my focus was on healing.
We hadn’t seen or heard from Cash since the hospital. True to his word, any questions they had for me came from Felix. They found the guy who had caused my accident and charged him with a whole list of things. Today, rather than staying in bed, I set up camp in front of the television and Belle had come to my rescue with some books to read. When I heard Austin’s car in the driveway, I lay down and turned down the volume, hoping he wouldn’t find me straight away. I listened to the sound of the door opening and him moving through the house. Instead of going upstairs like I thought he would, he came straight to where I was. Folding his arms over his chest, he leant against the doorframe.
“Hey, welcome home.”
“How are you feeling, Duchess?”
“Bored out of my mind, and ready to go back to work.”
“Just gonna have to make use of those books, now aren’t you?” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Really, spying on me?” He chuckled and pushed himself off the door and moved over to me. He sat down on the couch beside me, and I twisted slightly, putting my legs over his.
“No, Belle came and saw me. Not the other way around.” I let out a sigh.
“Last time I trust her to sneak me shit. Should have just come to work with you.”
“I mean, if you want to come and answer the phones then sure.”
“I would last ten minutes before I got bored and went next door to the bookstore.”
“I’d give it ten minutes in there before you left because of someone else who occupies that shop.”
“Have you heard from him?” He shook his head, looking down at his hand as his fingertips ran along my legs, his touch light against my exposed skin thanks to the shorts that I was wearing.
“No, we made ourselves clear at the hospital. Belle would tell Savannah the same things. Until he is ready to accept it, there is nothing we can do. Did you talk to your mom?” I shook my head.
“No and I know I am probably making a mountain out of a molehill but after everything since everyone finding out I was back, it just hurt. I wasn’t prepared to hear that from her.”
“What I think we both need is to get out of this house for a while. Think your shoulder is up to a drive?”
“Only one way to find out.” He laughed and patted his hand against my thigh.
“Go and get changed and I will wait for you down here.” I pressed my lips to his cheek and got myself up from the couch. I slowly made my way upstairs to get dressed. I was this close to breaking free; knowing my luck, I would trip up the stairs and land my clumsy ass back in hospital. Taking out some of the clothes that Dallas had packed for me, there was only one article of clothing, my bra, that would hurt my shoulder if I reached around to do it up. I sighed and counted to three before shouting to Austin.
“Can you come up here for a second, I need your help with something!” I heard him coming up the stairs.
“You are supposed to be getting dressed!”
“Hence why I am calling you!” He appeared at the door and raised a brow.
“Now you know I am much better with undressing you, Duchess, then I am dressing you.”
“Smart-ass, don’t make me regret this.” I held out my bra. “I’m assuming you know how to work one of these.”
