“Yep.”

Wolf took a moment to observe his pet. Diego didn’t seem agitated. On the contrary, he appeared relaxed. In a good mood, even. But Wolf wasn’t entirely convinced. Diego’s short and carefree answers were suspicious. “I know my son better than anyone. Levi is stubborn. He wouldn’t have made up with you so easily unless he got what he wanted in return.”

Diego huffed and sat up, taking a mug from the coffee table and taking a sip. From the tag of the green teabag hanging over the rim, Wolf knew what it was. After swallowing, Diego said, “And … what are you trying to say?”

There was no way Diego could hide anything from him. Wolf suspected that Diego had done a favor for Levi. “You gave his phone back to him, didn’t you, Diego?”

After a brief silence, Diego asked, “Are you angry?”

“I told you to talk with him and sort out your differences, not get in the way of his lesson. I still need to discipline my son.”

Diego groaned and set the mug down. “Who cares, Wolf. It worked. What else do you want?”

“He manipulated you. I know how persuasive Levi can be,” Wolf said. It might have been a good trait for his son to have since Levi would work alongside him one day, but a teenager with that skill would use it inappropriately.

“No, he didn’t manipulate me. We made a deal.”

Wolf was silent as he watched Diego with hard disapproval. “You’re making deals with my son now?”

Diego smirked. “Better to start when they’re young.”

Even if Levi and Diego had agreed to a truce, Wolf knew that Levi still didn’t like Diego. He had only gotten what he wanted from him and had decided to play nice for his own reasons. Wolf didn’t want his son to be around the wrong influences. Levi was already a troublemaker, no matter what measures Wolf took to discourage that. He knew that Diego would negatively affect Levi by allowing him to get away with bad behavior. Wolf would need to reenforce Levi’s punishment. “I’m going to have to take it back from him.”

“You’re too hard on the kid. You’re going to push him away,” Diego said.

Wolf felt taken aback. He hadn’t expected Diego to say thatat all. He was seeing a new side to Diego, and that fascinated him. But Wolf wanted to confirm that Diego was being serious. “I didn’t tell you to be good to Levi, but it seems you want to be, even after what he did to your car.”

“Yeah, well … what I did to him was worse.” Diego paused and averted his gaze. “You should let this one slide. Don’t ground him.”

Only this once, Wolf decided that he’d let it slide. That was only because he didn’t want the hostility between Levi and Diego to continue. And besides, Wolf liked how well his pet was behaving. But Wolf wouldn’t always be so lenient with the both of them.

“Do you forgive Levi?” Wolf asked.

Diego smirked. “I do.”

CHAPTERTEN

Since Leviand Diego had settled their score, Diego got to drive Wolf’s Lamborghini. Wolf had also gotten one of his men to replace the tires on Diego’s own car.

The next morning, once Wolf had left for work, Diego slipped out of bed, dressed, and took the keys to his Mustang GT. The engine roared to life, and Diego waited for someone to stop him. No one did.

Wolf had given him the freedom to leave when he wished. Despite that, Diego was still breaking a rule. He hadn’t told Wolf that he was leaving or where he was going. He didn’t want to deal with that.

Diego was growing attached to Wolf, and that scared him. He didn’t want to lose himself to a relationship and needed to get away from Wolf for a while.

At least Wolf didn’t know where his new hideout was.

Diego rolled into the new mechanic garage and parked the car before stepping out.

“Boss,” a few of his members greeted him. Diego walked through the garage and into the office.

“You’re back,” Ander said.

“For good this time,” Diego said. It was good to see his best friend again.

“Won’t your boyfriend come looking for you?”

Diego dropped his keys on the desk. “Don’t worry about him.”
