I was born on earth as insurance against the Alperton Angels failing in their mission. They failed. It’s now my purpose to destroy the Antichrist.

Amanda Bailey

There’s no Antichrist. Just a secret special forces operation to rescue the kidnapped baby of a senior police officer and, unlawfully, assassinate the unarmed perpetrators – an op that collided with a police bid to cover up the murder in custody of Chris Shenk.

Amanda Bailey

Singh was deep undercover at a local restaurant. When he was found murdered, it was clear to police he’d been rumbled by the gang and executed. Local drug dealer and aspiring underworld bigshot Chris Shenk is their only suspect. That night, Shenky dies in custody, never having been OFFICIALLY in custody.

Amanda Bailey

Former special forces sniper and serving police officer Marie-Claire is organising the disposal of Shenk’s body. As Don’s trusted associate, she’s also coordinating the unofficial retrieval of Connor Makepeace and the murder of his kidnappers. Thanks to Ashleigh, who has been following the angels and reporting to her, she knows what Gabriel plans to do.

Amanda Bailey

Ashleigh escaped Gabriel’s clutches in 1990. Years later, she spots him with two teenagers, discovers they are as vulnerable as she was and totally under Gabriel’s control – but worse, they have a baby. She befriends Holly, who reveals the location of The Assembly.

Amanda Bailey

Ashleigh, believing the angels will harm the baby, informs the police, at which point Marie-Claire realises the location is the same as that given for the exchange of the ransom for Don’s son.

Amanda Bailey

Symbols painted on the floor, candles, witnesses who can attest to the satanic nature of the angels’ ethos. It was the perfect opportunity to rescue the baby and dispose of both the kidnappers and Shenk.

Amanda Bailey

It didn’t all go to plan. Holly escaped with the baby. She called 999 from the second floor, which also alerted Gray Graham, who was listening in on police radio comms. This meant the dark forces – Marie-Claire, Don and their trusted team – had just enough time to arrange the bodies into a satanic tableau before Gray and the police arrived. They had to shrink into the background while official protocols played out.

Amanda Bailey

Marie-Claire and Don followed the police car that took Holly and Jonah to the children’s centre, and presented themselves soon after to collect the baby. Connor is soon reunited with his parents. They could have no idea how this case would capture the public’s imagination. I’m sure they didn’t think they’d still be dealing with the fallout eighteen years later.

Amanda Bailey

No one involved in either operation wants the truth to come out and while both ops were successful, the cover-up remains dependent on everyone believing their own version of events to be true, and the myths about the case enduring.

Amanda Bailey

Since our Informer days we each considered Don a useful contact to stay friendly with. But the truth is, he stayed in touch with US. He probably does the same with other writers andjournalists, people who might get too close. There are at least seven people dead thanks to him and Marie-Claire.

Amanda Bailey

He told me to be careful. It was them I had to be careful of.

Oliver Menzies

This isn’t about you or Don. It’s bigger than that. When I was near the site of The Assembly I sensed a powerful psychic portal. It’s happened whenever I’ve been close to angel energy.

Amanda Bailey

Ol, did you not wonder why I kept giving you stuff? All those drinks and sweets? They all had caffeine in them. I remembered the effect it has on you from when we were at The Informer together At the massacre site, Quarr Abbey, when we visited the angels’ apartment. I even worked out exactly how long it takes for the shakes to start. Eighteen minutes.

Oliver Menzies

Nonsense. You’re trying to divert me from my purpose.
