“A week…I work nights on the weekend, afternoons during the week when I’m needed, and having no car to travel back and forth makes being here difficult.”
Kylo glances at me again, and I shake my head, continuing to eat, my input not necessary. “Where do you work?” he asks her.
“In Portland, at Vivid Vixens.”
Isn’t that the fancy strip joint on the way to my job?
“The strip club?” I ask with my mouth full.
I can’t help being curious about that, though I don’t miss Kylo’s glare, narrowing my eyes at him before taking another bite of my sandwich. He already knows taking on more work is a bad idea.
Sadie turns away from me and glances at Kylo. “No, it’s a Gentleman’s Club and more….”
“Hey, it’s okay. We’ll make it work, and Lex can take you.”
I choke on my food, coughing while pounding on my chest as the dry bread moves slowly down my throat, and I stare at him. “Lex will what? Did you forget I work crazy hours?”
“You come here during your breaks. Drop Sadie off on the way back, and pick her up when you’re done.”
“I’m not a chauffeur.”
Kylo walks up to me and grips my shoulders with a firm massage. “C’mon, youneed me time, and what better place than stopping for a beer after a long hard day at work while you wait?”
I shrug him off. “That place is too upscale for a drop-by. Make Adam do it, or you can take her yourself.”
“You don’t have to,” Sadie says. “I’ll see if my friend Evie can give me rides. We work together.”
My brows perk up at that name, and I look at Sadie. “Evie…why does that sound familiar?”
“I’m sure you’ve met her. She’s one of your regulars.”
Then the name clicks, and a beautiful brunette I can’t get off my mind comes flooding from my memories—I stand, finishing my last bite while wiping my mouth with a napkin. “You know what, don’t worry about it. I’ll take and pick you up.”
Sadie glances between Kylo and me then nods.
“Okay. Then it’s settled,” Kylo says, pleased with her answer. “We’ll start with a week, work our way to more if needed, and I’ll do my best to make you fall in love with me.”
Good luck with the rule, Kylo.
* * *
That lasted no more than ten minutes as I’m currently driving Sadie home. One second I received a text message from Kylo with the idea of extending sessions to be more effective, resulting in him having lengthier downtown between each client, then the next, he’s asking me to take Sadie home. I assume she changed her mind for a second time.
“It’s times like this that make me realize I don’t understand jack shit about women,” I say, glancing at Sadie sitting beside me, then back to the road. “You want something, and then you don’t, then you do again only to say you don’t once more? Why torture yourself like that?”
“I’m not torturing myself.”
“Sounds a hell of a lot like it. You desire one thing, then sabotage yourself from achieving it without giving it a chance.”
She stays quiet for a second before muttering under her breath, “Maybe you should mind your business.”
“Mind my business. Lady, this is my business. You’re wasting our time and resources.”
I feel like an asshole when she’s quiet the entire ride to her apartment since I don’t know her story, what she’s been through, still probably going through, and once I park on the street to her complex, that feeling intensifies to a thousand. “This is where you live?”
“Yes. Why?” She shifts in her seat as I turn to stare at her. “What?”
“Are you the girl I almost ran over a few days ago? I knew there was something familiar about you.”
