She widens her eyes. “That was you?”

Scratching my head, I stare at the road while tapping the steering wheel with my thumb and Kylo saying I need ‘me time’sticks because he couldn’t be more right.

“Yeah, my bad about that. I was rushing to get back to work and didn’t see you crossing—I felt like a dick almost hitting you.”

“Oh, it’s fine. I was sort of zoned out myself.”

I nod, giving her a tight smile, relieved I hadn’t traumatized her. “Well, I’m glad I didn’t kill you.”

She snorts and holds her hand toward me. “Thanks, I guess, for not killing me.”

Chuckling, I give her a firm shake, then lean back in my chair.I like her spunk.

“I thought you worked with Kylo? Being his assistant,” she asks.

“It’s a side job, but unfortunately, I also work in the logging industry with my dad.”

“Unfortunately?”

“Yup. No need to get into details.”

“Hm.” We sit in silence, and the more we stew, the more she looks like she wants to leave, though I don’t want her to. “I should go—”

“Take the sessions,” I say, facing her. “I’ve been a jerk since you arrived, and I apologize. Kylo and I don’t always see eye to eye when it comes to the experience. However, the idea he pitched regarding your sessions, I believe, will benefit future clients and the business more than our current plan. Take the week. If you feel it’s not working, you are in control of terminating the sessions at any point. Don’t…” I sigh, then look at her to not make the same mistakes as me. “Don’t let fear rule you. I sense you’re hesitant, but I know Kylo. He’s passionate, caring, and has everyone’s best interests at heart, to the point of neglecting himself while helping others.”

She raises her brows. “Doesn’t seem like the best idea to take on a client like me then.”

“That’s true, but he’s nervous around you, which never happens to him with clients, hell, women in general.” I rest my head on the seat. “I know he won’t take time off, so maybe if he focuses on one person in the meantime, it’ll give him time to rest his mind, and possibly you can help me help him?”

“You want me to help him relax?”

“To realize self-care is important, and at the same time, you’ll get the help you need. It’s a win-win if you ask me.”

The freckles along Sadie’s nose wrinkle as she scrunches, which is adorable—I can see why Kylo’s flustered.

“I don’t know. My situation… it’s complicated.”

“So, make it less complicated. What’s the worst that can happen?” She stays quiet, but I don’t let her think for long. “It’s the least you can do since you almost made me a murderer,” I add with a smirk, and her jaw drops.

“You’re not seriously playing the victim card.”

I chuckle, then check my watch. “I only have a few minutes of my break left. So what do you think?”

Letting out a deep breath, she nods. “Alright. What time will you be back to pick me up?”

Proud of my persuasion superpower, I grin, starting my truck. “I’ll be here around 5:30.”

“Should I contact Kylo?”

“No. I’ll take care of it. You worry about packing.”

“Sure, and thanks for the ride. I’m going to talk with my friend to see if she can give me rides, too, so you’re not the one always taking me to work.”

No problem with that. Maybe I’ll have a chance to talk to her if she does.

“Alright. We’ll talk about that later. Give me your phone, and I’ll call my number.”

After the exchange, she leaves my truck, and I wave before pulling into traffic, driving quickly before coming to normal speed to head back to work because why rush?
