I found myself actually looking around my room like he could somehow see me. “It’s still early here.”

“Not that early,” he said. “You never sleep this late.”

“I was busy,” I said with maybe just a little too much satisfaction. I was suddenly a high school jock dying to tell my best friend I got laid.

“Busy doing what?” he said. “Working?”

“If you must know, I wasn’t in my room,” I told him.

“Working out,” he said. “I—”

“No, I wasn’t working out,” I said before he could let me off the hook too quickly. “I was in someone’s room. Where I slept. All night.”

There was a silence so long I thought I might have lost connection. I checked my screen and saw the call was still active. “You slept with someone?”

“I did,” I said proudly.

“Oh shit,” he breathed. “You finally fucking did it, didn’t you?”

I had to laugh at his disbelief. “I did.”

“Shit! I wish I was there to celebrate. This calls for a bottle of champagne. Did you remember where all the parts went?”

“Fuck you.”

“Did you at least let her get off before you did?” he asked. “I’ve gone like a month without sex and the moment I got inside that sweet pussy, I was down for the count.”

“She got off,” I told him. I remembered every detail. I had felt how much she enjoyed it. She had most definitely gotten off.

“Did you meet her at a bar, or what?”

“No.” I wasn’t sure I wanted him to know it was Noelle. He’d figure it out eventually, but I wanted to keep it to myself as long as possible.

“I knew it!” he exclaimed with a loud laugh.

“What did you know?” I asked.

“Noelle,” he said. “You slept with her. I knew it was going to happen. I saw the way you were looking at her. I knew you were going to go after her.”

“It wasn’t like that,” I said.

“Ha! So it was her!”

“Yes, but you can’t say anything,” I told him. “I’m not sure what it means, and I don’t want to scare her off.”

“You had sex,” he said. “Holy shit. I can’t believe you finally did it. Damn. Congratulations. You’ve got to feel better. I mean, you finally cleared things out. Did you last longer than thirty seconds?”

“Barely,” I confessed.

His raucous laughter was just a little annoying.

“I have to go. I’m meeting her for breakfast.”

“Be good, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” he warned before bursting into laughter again.

I was kind of glad I got to tell him over the phone. I wasn’t sure I could handle him laughing in my face. After placing the call to room service, I hopped in the shower and dressed for breakfast. I went back to her room just as the order was being delivered.

“We should probably go over tonight,” she said. “Tell me what I should or shouldn’t say.”
