“Derek, honey, let me get you some pie,” Jane said as she walked into the kitchen to cut a slice of apple pie and scoop some ice cream for him before returning to the table.

He sat down next to his dad and scooped up a bite. “So what did I miss?”

Chase scrubbed at his face. “Mama thinks she won’t get grandkids from you, so she’s pressuring us.”

“Oh Mama,” Derek started. “You’ll eventually get some from me. In the far, far, distant future.”

Kailynn looked between all of them as they bantered. She would have laughed at the banter and brushed it off, but Jane’s words rang in her ear. Did everyone think Chase and Kailynn got together too fast? Did they all wonder if she was pregnant?

She pulled out her messy bun and tied it back up to trap all the loose hairs that had come out before giving them a small smile to avoid any questioning looks. Her eyes flashed outside, and she suddenly wished to find Buttercup walking by loose so she had an excuse to escape this situation.

Chase squeezed her thigh, startling her from her thoughts, and he nodded his head toward the door, asking if she wanted to leave. She shrugged, not wanting to take him away from his family, but hoping he would decide to leave on his own.

“I’m going to take Kailynn on a tour of the farm,” he said, standing up and holding a hand out for her.

She took it and smiled at everyone. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. I hope you liked the pie. I see you didn’t eat much,” Jane said.

“Jane, leave her alone. You already badgered her about giving you grandchildren. I’m sure she lost her appetite.” Rob winked at Kailynn, and she gave him an appreciative smile. “You two get out of here quick before she asks for wedding dates.”

Chase laughed and Kailynn gave them a small smile before they walked out of the house, leaving Derek sitting at the table with his parents.

Chase held Kailynn’s hand as they walked around the property. He showed her the treehouse that Rob had built for Chase and Derek when they were kids. He brought her around the cow pastures and the chicken coop and back to the hayfields. By the end of the tour, they were both exhausted.

Kailynn remained quiet on their walk, only responding occasionally with shorter answers. Chase studied her but decided it was just exhaustion. They had already done a lot that day and it was only early afternoon.

“Are you hungry?” he asked. His stomach growling told him they had missed lunch.

She nodded.

He helped her onto Buttercup before jumping up himself and they began the ride back to Derek’s place. They rode in silence for half the ride before Chase spoke up.

“What would you like for lunch?”

“I don’t know what there is to eat.”

“There’s a really great diner in town. We could see if Derek will let us borrow his truck and ride over there. Then you can see our ‘downtown’ area.” He did the quotes with his fingers to show that it wasn’t really a downtown, but just an area that they considered as much since it was a single street with a dozen shops.

Kailynn nodded. “That sounds nice.”

“Feeling tired?”

“It’s been a bit of a long morning.”

“Yes, it has.” He hugged her to his chest, and she leaned back into him, sighing in contentment. “I’m happy you’re with me.”

She tipped her head back to look up at him. “Me too.”

He pressed a kiss to her lips, thankful Buttercup didn’t have to be told where to go. His hand worked its way up her neck and cupped the back of her head. His mind immediately switched to when she sucked him off after they arrived in Montana. He groaned against her mouth. The want to fuck her right then was strong, but she pulled back.

“I don’t want to have sex out here. Abi told me a horror story of her and Logan doing it in the woods once,” she whispered against his lips. “So many splinters.”

He cringed.

His hands traveled up her thighs until they rested on her crotch, her jeans impeding the true destination.
