She sighs in relief before me, a broad smile spreading across her face and brightening her eyes. “Oh, good. Our flight is scheduled to leave at ten, and I still have to pack and make it to the airport. They are supposed to be picking me up in thirty minutes, so I’m going to go get ready. I’ll make sure and chat with Lily before I leave. Thank you!” she calls as she hurries to her own room.
I sit while Corey watches recaps of the Avs’ game last night, and I consider Mom’s behavior. I guess it’s not that abnormal. She goes on surprise work trips all the time, but we usually have a few days, and it’s usually not the weekend.
“What was that, Sunshine?” Corey suddenly chimes in.
“Oh, nothing. Mom has to leave for a work trip, so I need to take off work tomorrow. I guess I’ll use the opportunity to take Lily shopping for Mom for Christmas. Did you want to tag along?”
“I wouldn’t miss a chance to hang with my favorite girls. I’ll swing by here after my workout. Maybe we can meet the boys for lunch?”
Smiling, I snuggle into him. I’ll have to stay with Lily here at night, but maybe I can get Corey or Bast to stay with us tomorrow. I love my sister with all my heart, but I’m not ready to be a full-time mom and having someone else my age here will help, especially with distracting me from the fact that December is half over. Crap, I’m going to have to tell Mom when she gets home that I’ll be “moving to Florida” on New Year’s Day. I’m going to have to set out some kind of plans, for Mom’s sake. Hey, maybe if Jason is still watching, he’ll give me till the last minute.Fuck,I might only have two weeks left.
“Are you awake?” Corey leans down to check on me, and I peer up and smile, even if it is weak.
“Yeah, just thinking about what I want to do this weekend,” I say in a little white lie. “I was supposed to go out with Dom tomorrow night, but I wonder if Sunday night would be ok. Mom will be back by then.”
“I’m sure that’ll be ok. Text him now, and let him know, just in case he needs to change plans, but I’m sure he’ll be understanding.”
I lift my phone and switch from my conversation with Cam to Dom’s chat.
Hey! How was work?

Hey, Baby Girl. I had an okay day. How was yours? You home?
Yeah, I was watching Lily with Corey, but Mom just rushed in with news. She has to take an urgent work trip and won’t be home till Sunday afternoon. Would it be ok if we postpone our date till Sunday night?
Dom
That’s fine, Baby. I’m ok with that. I was thinking – how about dinner and ice skating?
I grin at his question, and I’m loving the sentimental thoughts around his date idea.
I love it! I can’t wait. Speaking of, though. I need to take Lily Christmas shopping for Mom, and Corey figured we could meet you and the guys for lunch, so maybe I’ll still get to see you tomorrow?

Sounds good to me. Just let me know where and when.
I switch back to Cam’s chat and suggest lunch to him.
Hey, I’m going to be on Lily duty this weekend, and I’m thinking of taking her Christmas shopping for Mom tomorrow. Corey thought you and the other guys might want to meet us for lunch, and Dom is in. Are you?
