“Now we stop those two idiots before they kill each other!”
I grabbed her hand again, and we ran downstairs. Dominic was watching the fight, looking concerned, and I could see he really wanted to interfere.
“Where were you?” he asked.
“Getting this!” I said.
Dominic looked uneasy, seeing me holding the gun, and pulled Lara closer.
“What are you doing with that?” he asked.
“Just stopping them.”
“By shooting them?!”
I shook my head.
“Of course not,” I said and looked at my brother and Damon, just as I lifted the gun ready to fire into the air, so I could get their attention, but it was then I saw Gabriel lying on the ground, just taking punch after punch, not even really fighting back.
I couldn’t understand what it was Gabriel was doing. He was a brilliant fighter, I knew this. He wouldn’t just accept the punches like that, but it was then I realized Gabriel had stopped fighting back because of me. He knew what my brother meant to me. He knew he couldn’t kill him, and he knew Damon wouldn’t stop, even if Gabriel stopped fighting.
“Damon!” I shouted. “Stop!”
He didn’t though, and I quickly fired the gun. Damon’s hand froze in the air, as he turned his eyes to me.
“I said STOP!”
Chapter 37
-Valeri-
“Val, what the fuck are you doing?!” my brother shouted. “Put the gun down!”
“Get off him!” I shouted, lowering the gun. “Right now!”
My brother looked down at Gabriel, who was just staring right back at him with cold eyes, and I hated to see the look in them. My brother slowly got off him though, thinking he was the winner. He was too angry to see that Gabriel had let him win.
“Put the gun down now!” my brother said.
“Take a few steps away from him.”
My brother looked at me confused but did as he was told, and then I finally lowered the gun. I handed Lara the gun, not trusting my brother with one right now, and then ran over to where Gabriel was.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
He slowly sat up and nodded, but it was clear he was bleeding really badly.
“Val!” my brother called.
I turned to him, slowly standing up.
“Why?!” I asked him.
“Why what?”
“Why did you do it?!” I asked him. “You could have killed him!”
“And I was going to!” he shouted.
