Never let me go home …
How can anyone be so horrible?!
The woods are dark, and it is in the middle of the winter. I am not wearing anything but a thin white dress, that does nothing to keep me warm. I run as fast as I can, but they are right there, and suddenly a pair of arms wrap around my waist.
I scream!
“No!”
But there is nothing to do. He is stronger than me.
“No!”
I sat up, sweating, and looked around the dark room, while I hyperventilated. I suddenly felt a hand on my back and turned around, scared.
“Easy, it’s just me,” Gabriel said.
I sighed relieved and threw myself at him. He wrapped his arms around me, and we laid down together.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked.
I shook my head.
“No …”
“Okay,” he said and didn’t try to push me.
He just ran his hand down my hair and back, soothing me.
“Just a stupid nightmare,” I said.
He didn’t comment on that, knowing it was more than just a nightmare, but I couldn’t talk about it. I couldn’t even talk about it with Damon.
“I have those too,” he said.
I looked up at him.
“Maybe not the same as you,” he said and stroked some hair away from my face. “But I have those kinds of nightmares too.”
“What about?” I asked.
He smiled a little.
“So, many fucking things … my family sometimes … and other people … there is a lot of … blood and death,” he told me.
I looked at him shocked, but I wasn’t sure why I was surprised. Maybe it surprised me he could have been through something so horrible and still be so kind. I wasn’t sure how he did it.
“Sometimes I don’t know where I am either when I wake up,” he said.
“What do you do then?” I asked.
“Walk around … drink.”
“Does it help?” I asked.
“It helps me forget, but the hollow feeling doesn’t go away. The regret doesn’t go away,” he told me. “I have lost a lot of sleep letting those feelings rule me.”
“Me too,” I said.
