“You aren’t there anymore.”

I smiled, and even though I knew I wasn’t, it was nice to hear.

“It feels real,” I said.

He nodded.

“It always does, but it isn’t. Not anymore,” he said.

“I’m scared it will be real again,” I whispered.

“Never. I won’t allow it,” he promised me, and I believed him.

I truly did.

Chapter 19

-Gabriel-

When I woke up in the morning Valeri was gone. It made my wolf so damn angry, so I was in a horrible mood when I got out of bed and met the others for breakfast. My mate shouldn’t be leaving my bed in the morning like some … dirty little secret. I was proud of having Valeri as my mate, and I wanted to wake up to her beautiful face and smile, but because of her damn brother, that was not going to happen in the near future. I needed to figure out a way to make sure she would be mine, and Damon couldn’t come between us.

I knew how …

But that might just make Valeri hate me, and I was not thinking of killing her brother … or, I was when I woke up this morning, seeing she was gone, but marking her would make sure no one could take her from me. Unfortunately, a forceful marking was … it was a very bad thing. Completely unacceptable, and I knew the only reason why I was even thinking about it, was because the mate bond was making me slightly insane.

“So …”

“No,” I said when Lara tried speaking to me.

It was just, her, Dominic, and me. Ace was still not at the table, and I didn’t believe he would show for a while. He dealt with emotions by being alone and not having to talk about them. Right now, I wanted to do the same thing.

“I was just …”

“Lara, no,” I said, as I sat there with a cup of coffee in my hand, and yes, there was more than coffee in the mug.

Lara looked at me annoyed, and Dominic was smiling a little like he found the whole situation a little amusing.

“Let it go, little wolf,” Dominic leaned closer to Lara and said.

“But I am trying to help him!”

“He is a wreck right now.”

“I’m sitting right here,” I said.

Dominic turned to me and sympathetically smiled at me, which only made me feel worse.

“You can’t kill him,” Dominic said.

“I wasn’t thinking about it.”

“Yeah, you were.”

I sighed and slumped even more down in my seat. I was thinking about it. I really just wanted to go over there right now and throw Valeri over my shoulder, and if Damon stood in my way, then I would take him down before I made Valeri fully mine.
