“Damon … and you … made peace?” she asked as if she couldn’t quite believe it.

I had a hard time believing it too. It almost felt like a dream, but I knew it wasn’t. I felt too good for this to all just be a stupid dream.

“Exactly!”

“How?! Why?!” she asked.

I smiled and sipped a little of my drink.

“Valeri,” I said.

“She finally convinced him?” Lara asked excitedly.

“In some way,” I said.

“What does that mean?” she asked and walked over to me.

I found another glass and poured her a drink. She looked at me a little suspiciously, as I smiled at her and held up my glass, nodding towards hers and telling her without words to pick hers up.

“Okay, what is going on?” she asked.

“She is pregnant. Valeri is pregnant,” I said and clinked my glass against hers. “I’m going to be a father.”

Chapter 48

-Valeri-

I had pretty much cried my eyes out before I started to pace around in my room, feeling so damn scared, because I hadn’t heard from Damon in a good while now. I had no idea where he went, but I had a pretty good idea, and I feared I would feel the pain of my mate being ripped from this world, but as time went on and on, and I still didn’t feel anything, I only got more scared. What was Damon doing?! Where could he have been if he hadn’t gone to see Gabriel?! Maybe he was torturing him. Maybe he was … I couldn’t even imagine it because it hurt too much.

“Oh, Damon, where are you?” I whispered, feeling both sick, scared, and sad.

I walked almost in the same circle, and I knew if I kept this up, I would most likely make myself a beautiful little trail on the carpet, but I couldn’t stop. I simply couldn’t relax, until I knew where my brother had been. Suddenly, I heard a door close, and I froze, holding my breath as I listened, trying to figure out if I had truly heard anything. Footsteps followed shortly after and I knew Damon had come back. I ran out of my bedroom and down the stairs, meeting him halfway.

“Damon!” I shouted.

He quickly noticed me and stopped. I ran over to him and started to look him over for any signs of blood or cuts on him, but he looked completely fine.

“Tell me you didn’t do it!” I said, scared.

“What?” he asked.

“Just … please, tell me you didn’t!”

“Valeri, what are you talking about?” he asked and grabbed my arms gently. “Are you okay?”

I shook my head, feeling the tears stream down my cheeks.

“Val?!”

“Please …”

“Hey, hey, what is going on?” he asked me, concerned.

“Tell me you didn’t kill him,” I whispered.
