“You will bring Valeri? Here?!”
He nodded.
“And then I will have her things packed and transported. It would probably be best if you started living together to see if you can make it work before the baby comes,” he said.
“Have you spoken to Valeri about this?” I asked.
“I was going to, but you keep stopping me,” he said.
I smiled a little.
“We’re going to be brothers,” I teased him.
Damon looked like he was ready to strangle me, and his hands tightened into tight fists before he pointed at me.
“Don’t. Ever. Say something like that again,” he told me.
I chuckled.
“I can’t make any promises. You are tolerating me now,” I said.
“I already regret it. Don’t make me change my mind!” he said.
I held up my hands again.
“You’re right. I won’t. Please, do go get her,” I said.
Damon watched me for a few seconds, clearly not sure if more bullshit was going to come out of my mouth, but when I stayed quiet, he finally turned away and walked out of the door, while I stayed in my spot, barely able to believe it. Valeri was pregnant, and her brother was finally allowing us to be together. It was a … miracle!
“Gabriel!”
Lara came running all of a sudden, and stopped not far away from me, looking almost scared.
“Oh, good, you’re still alive,” she said.
“What?!”
“I saw Damon walking out,” she said. “I thought he might …”
I chuckled a little and shook my head, before I walked over to her and wrapped my arm around her neck, pulling her closer.
“Still standing,” I said.
“You look … okay,” she said and looked me up and down.
“I’m okay.”
“He didn’t hurt you?” she asked.
I shook my head.
“He punched me once and then we made peace.”
“Peace?!” she almost shouted.
I smiled and nodded before I walked over to the bar again and grabbed my drink.
“That’s right!”
