“I understand. Take some time to really think about what is important though. Your pride or your sister,” he said.
“That is not—”
“But it is, Damon. It is about pride. Don’t lose your sister over it,” he said.
“I …”
Dominic just stood up and nodded to me once, as if to tell me without words to make the right choice, but what was the right choice?
“I hope to hear from you soon,” he said. “Now I will leave you to your work.”
He turned around and walked out of the office, leaving me there feeling even worse actually. I had hoped for a distraction, but now I couldn’t focus at all on my work. Pride or my sister? Was that really what this was about? Pride …
Chapter 44
-Valeri-
I paced around in my bathroom, feeling so damn anxious. I didn’t want to believe it. I didn’t even want to think the thought to an end, because the idea of me being … No, I just couldn’t think about it yet, not before I knew it for sure. I should have thought about it though. Why didn’t we think of protection?! I knew why, because I was so caught up in living in my little dream world that I knew would have to end someday, so I didn’t even bother thinking about protection, because it had truly all felt like a dream. It wasn’t a dream though. It was reality, and now reality was catching up with me.
“It’s not true,” I whispered. “It’s just not.”
Because if it was true, then my brother would never forgive me, and I would have lost him forever. I couldn’t lose him forever … He meant the world to me, and if I lost him, it would be like losing a piece of myself.
“You’re just overreacting!”
Sure, yeah, that was it … an overreaction.
“You just felt a little bad because you haven’t been able to eat. It was too hard on your stomach.”
I had barely even gotten anything down before I felt sick … too hard? Really? That was the best excuse I could come up with. I felt rather pathetic thinking like that, but I was desperate for another reason than me being …
My phone suddenly started to ring, and I looked over at it. It was lying beside the little pregnancy test, that I had turned the other way because I was too scared to even look at the line or … lines appearing. I slowly walked over to it, knowing I couldn’t avoid it forever. With a shaking hand, I reached out and silenced my phone before I looked at the test. I took it between my fingers, but I did not turn it …
“It’s not true,” I whispered.
I took a deep breath.
“It’s not true,” I repeated.
I slowly turned the test, closing my eyes at the same time, and not ready to quite look at it yet, but then I forced myself to open my eyes, and I looked at the test. My heart froze … I slowly sank to the floor, as I stared at the two lines forming a plus.
“No …”
It felt like the whole world stopped, and I felt slightly dizzy.
“It’s not true,” I whispered.
Even staring at it, I could barely even believe it.
“No, no, no, no …”
I simply couldn’t believe this was happening. What was I going to do?! I stared at the test for a long time, before I finally realized what I had to do.
“It could be a false positive!” I said to myself. “I … I need to go to the doctor.”
I quickly got up from the floor, throwing my test out and taking my phone, before I stormed out of my bedroom, grabbed a jacket on the way, and then ran down to the ground floor, going for the door, before I realized something …
“How am I going to get to the hospital?”
