Mom beams. “Oh good! I wasn’t sure if I’d offended you with my advice.”

“No, not at all, Mom. I like to hear what you have to say. It’s important to me. Especially when I’m at a bit of a fork in the road like this.”

Mom rests her hand on mine and smiles. “Sure thing. You know that I’m always here for you, no matter what, don’t you? Whatever you need. We all are here for you.”

“I know, Mom.” I smile gratefully. “And I appreciate it. Very much.”

I eat my breakfast quickly before I actually start making some calls and reaching out to people. I have been doing this in between everything else, but this time I do so with more enthusiasm. I really feel like setting up a bit of a plan for New York will give me the right idea for what I want to do moving forwards.

If I start and it doesn’t feel right, then I can put an end to it. I can work out another plan, right? I don’t need to move in any direction until I’m certain, but I also can’t continue to do anything.

I need to get my life moving…

* * *

I feel better as I head towards Wyatt’s store, like I have made some excellent progress. I actually got some replies from some of the people I wanted to reach out to, so I’m feeling more confident that I will really be able to sort stuff out, and at the very leastseewhat New York might have to offer me.

Ding!

My heart skips a beat as I hear that sound, especially when no one responds to me. That means I really have timed everything perfectly, and Wyatt is out to lunch already.

“You’re back again?” I turn to see Lexi coming out from one of the side rooms, greeting me from behind. She looks a little resigned, like she knew this was coming. She knew that I would come and hang out with her again.

“Wyatt obviously isn’t here.”

“I didn’t come to see Wyatt.” There’s no point in beating around the bush.

I head over to the coffee machine while she processes this, and make us both a drink. I honestly can’t keep the grin from my face as I do. There’s nothing more fun than winding Lexi up and watching her unravel. I can almost hear her labored breathing from here.

“So, how is work today?” I ask as I take the seat beside her. The heat of her body washes over me, lighting me up like a damn Christmas tree. “Everyone treating you well?”

“Mhmm.” She raises her eyebrows as she sips her coffee. “Not too bad thanks.”

“But you’re here again, eating alone? I would tell Wyatt to take you out if I didn’t like coming to hang out with you so much. This is more fun, don’t you think?”

“You don’t have lunch plans of your own? Friends or co-workers to hang out with?”

I smile mysteriously, giving nothing away. Before she even knows what’s going on, my hands are back on her legs, picking up where we were forced to end things yesterday.

Unfortunately, today she seems ready. She pulls back from me in horror.

“So, you are just going to come here every day then?” She pulls back further, trying to create a distance between us, but that doesn’t really work when I can feel the sizzling chemistry burning in the air. “To hang out with me, for some reason?”

“Not ‘for some reason’. I like hanging out with you. I liked hanging out with the night of the graduation party, and I like hanging out with you now.”

She’s silent for a beat too long, before she catches herself and starts talking once more.

“So, we’re really going to talk about this, huh? About that night?”

Ooh my heart leaps up in my chest with delight. I’m more than happy to talk about that night with her, reminiscing will definitely get us in the mood. “Is there any part of that night you would particularly like to talk about? Because I have a lot in mind…”

I lean in so close I can actually rest my forehead on hers. Staring into her eyes really does remind me of being younger once more. She doesn’t resist any longer, she doesn’t keep trying to back away from me. She wants me and we both know it.

“Tell me what you want to talk about,” she reiterates, but breathlessly now, her eyes fluttering. “Because I can’t tell what you’re thinking. You’re not an open book.”

Huh, that surprises me. I would have thought that desire would be written all across my face. It’s all I can feel, all I can think about, I want her so bad it hurts.

My hand reaches out. I cup her cheeks in my fingers and just breathe her in. The scent of her bolts to my cock, springing my erection to life. Fuck, she’s amazing.
