I don’t mention Lexi again for the rest of the evening, because she’s become something of a sore subject for me, but that doesn’t mean she leaves my mind. Only now I’m not only thinking about her naked and spread eagle, I’m wondering about her life as well. I haven’t wondered about anyone after that graduation party. I’ve been too busy with my own life and making London work for me, but now I’m very curious as to what happened to Lexi.
When I climbed out of that bed and left her side, what became of her?
* * *
I can’t sleep.
I’ve been staring up at the ceiling for hours, just thinking.
Usually when I’ve had a drink, I crash out cold. Something that has been happening for a while, because obviously the legal drinking age is much younger in the UK. But tonight, I can’t switch off however hard I try.
Lexi and that photograph is circling through my veins.
I don’t want to grab my cell phone and start poking my nose into her life, especially when I know she doesn’t even have any social media accounts which means she doesn’t want to have anyone looking at her life, but I’m too intrigued.
I sigh and grab my cell phone, so I can start my investigations. I know Grayson mentioned someone named Emily, so that’s who I’ll look for. Maybe through her I’ll be able to find other connections that Lexi has. I might even find her husband or boyfriend.
What are you doing?I ask myself angrily. This is stupid…
I don’t know why I would even want to look at the man in her life. Am I trying to torture myself by looking at who she chose? What is wrong with me? I’m normally never worried about anything going on in anyone’s life.
But Lexi is something else…
“Oh wow.”
There are more photos on Emily’s page.
More snippets of Lexi’s life. It seems like she never left Beaufort, and that might be why she isn’t interested in updating people on her life, but Emily does it on her behalf. Based on the pictures there doesn’t seem to be any signs of a significant other. I don’t want to get too excited by this, because he might be camera shy or a wealthy man who wants to keep his identity a secret or something.
Oh God, I don’t know, but looking at her is making me want her all over again. Now that I’m really thinking about it, the night I had with Lexi was the best of my life.
If she’s a mother, but doesn’t have a man in her life, then surely, she’s going to be keen to have some no strings attached fun with me?
I decide I shouldn’t give up just yet. I think there might be something more between me and Lexi. We’ll see…

LEXI
Ring, ring… Ring, ring… Ring, ring…
I groan as I reach across the nightstand to grab my cell phone. I’m not usually woken up by a phone call in the morning, it’s usually Mya, so obviously my first instinct is to panic that something terrible is happening.
“Hello? Who is it?”
“It’s Wyatt.” My heart beats faster and I bolt upright in bed. What the hell is Wyatt calling me for? This can’t be good. Three days ago, I had the interview and I haven’t heard anything since. I was pretty happy to write the job off because of the complications that came with it.
“I hope this isn’t too early, I actually meant to call you last night, but I ended up working really late, I got caught up in a job…”
“Oh no it’s fine, don’t worry. You don’t need to worry about a thing.”
“Well, I was actually hoping you might be able to start work today. Things are getting a little crazy, and I really need a receptionist. I haven’t found anyone better than you…”
“You want to give me the job?” I can’t hide my surprise. I really didn’t think he would want someone like me at the front of his cool store. “Are you sure?”
“Oh, hell yeah, I’m more than sure. It’ll be a pleasure to have you, Lexi.”
I swallow hard as I listen to the job details. The pay is far more than I’m worth, I’m sure of it. Without a college education and in a small town like this, I couldn’t expect more. It’s a paycheck that really makes me think about Mya. This could actually make our lives better. We could maybe think about making something of our lives.
