CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Billy Clubs, Bullets, and Jingle Bells
FINALLY…
Felicity had gotten a hold of the rose vibrator everyone was squawking about online. Let’s see if this thing can put its sucking where its mouth is…
She hadn’t needed such aids as of late, Brett was taking care of business, but it had been hell during the past few weeks. Brett was working double shifts, and it seemed domestic violence calls and robberies were skyrocketing right after the New Year. She also noticed more unscrupulous activity at her own job, as theft was rising in the drugstore. Drug addicts were trying to get medicine with fake prescriptions, or with stolen I.D.s., and other patrons had decided samples weren’t only for grocery store grapes anymore.
My career of crime ended at the age of eight, when I stole a pack of gum and was caught by security. That had been a shame she hadn’t soon lived down.
I wonder if Brett knows he’s been dating a hardened criminal? I had a fistful of Bazooka bubblegum, and I was hellbent on escaping with the gold!
She laughed at herself as she lay there, then kept musing about the past few weeks.
Brett had stated the escalation in shoplifting across the city was fueled in part by a financial crunch. Christmas was over, and those credit card bills were starting to roll in. People had overspent, and now, the fried chicken legs carted over by a hungry squirrel had come home to roost. She, too, had overspent, but she was happy to have done it. She’d anonymously donated to a needy family’s campaign, after watching Brett do the same. He’d said nothing, but one day while they were out, he loaded up his car with a mountain of groceries and delivered them to several houses.
Now she had also decided to write a check and give it to a church that helped the needy. It felt good. No, it didn’t feel good. It felt wonderful. Then, when she got to work, a regular customer, Mr. Bergeson, had sticker shock when he saw the price for a new prescription he needed for his heart condition. He needed it so refusing it wasn’t an option, but since there was no comparable generic, he realized he was going to really have to do without many things to afford it. As he handed her his credit card, she handed it right back and whispered, ‘It’s on the house for the next six months.’ And that was that…
She settled into her bed, her television on mute, and her laptop open. Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, she happened upon a new upload on her favorite porn site: Brute cop arrests shoplifter… Makes her pay off her debt to society by polishing his ‘billy club.’
Oh, yes, this looks promising.
She grabbed the rose vibrator, placed it just so, and clicked on the video. A tall, tatted up sexy dude in a police uniform confronted a woman who was in the makeup section of a department store, stealing lipsticks.
Oh no, ma’am, you’re in trouble now. You’re going to be using your lips all right…
Just as it was getting good, her doorbell rang.
Shit!
Who could it be? She wasn’t expecting anyone, especially not at eleven at night. Slamming her laptop closed, she tossed the gadget to the side, got up and wrapped herself in her robe, then shimmied to the front door to look at the doorbell camera.
What the hell?
She slammed her finger against the intercom. “What are you doing here?” she asked, then opened the door to find Brett in his police uniform. Her personal boy in blue.
“Felicity, I told you that if I got off on time, I’d swing by.” He spoke with a bit of an attitude, as if he, too, were fed up with the way of the world.
“Oh, yes, that’s right.” She slapped her palm on her forehead and shook her head. “Today has been such a crazy day, baby. I totally forgot you’d sent that text message.”
“Well? Can I come in?”
“Oh! Yes, come on. Sorry.” Her pussy throbbed as he walked past, his gun in the holster catching the light just so, and a pair of handcuffs swinging with each hard step. “Have you eaten?”
“Of course not. That’s crazy talk,” he said sarcastically. “Tonight was a mess, baby.”
“Take it easy, take a load off. Let me fix you some soup and a sandwich.”
“Thanks. I appreciate it.”
They made their way into her kitchen, and he pulled out a chair from her small table nook.
“What happened tonight?” She removed the wheat bread from the refrigerator, along with some pastrami, pickles, tomato, and mustard.. “You want cheese? I’ve got muenster, sharp cheddar, and provolone.”
“Yes… provolone. So, there was a crazy guy peeing on the side of LaRosa’s, you know, the pizza restaurant. He said it was piss art. Pizzart.”
Felicity burst out laughing. She couldn’t help herself.
