So, no, she wasn’t going to answer a single question or eat anything untilaftershe had caught some Z’s. Anyone who dared to get in her way would regret it, she would make sure of it.

“Shout me… urm… never.” she smirked before heading inside.

“Don’t worry, I won’t disturb you,” he said, then added more quietly. “I don’t want to get blasted across the room again.”

Selene was grinning as she opened the door to the cabin and stepped inside. She could still remember the look on his face as he went flying along the corridor in the bunker. It was one of the few times the spell had actually worked, and she was grateful it had. Even though he still caught up with her, it had shown her that she had enough time to get away if she needed to do it again.

The only downside was how much it had drained her. Hopefully, next time she used the spell, it wouldn’t take as much out of her. It had drained her more than the locating spell.

It had taken her days to recover from her last attempt at the locating spell, so it only stood to reason that she would still be drained from blasting him across the room.

Selene barely made it two steps inside the cabin before she was suddenly thrown across the room. She slammed into the wall and then landed in a heap on the floor.

She didn’t have a chance to see who her attacker was before they were on her. She didn’t know if they were alone, or if there was more of them waiting for their chance at her. The one thing she knew for sure, the person attacking her was a male.

His large hand wrapped around her throat, cutting off her oxygen. A second later, sharp pain shot through the side of her face as his other hand made contact, rattling her brain and making stars appear in her vision.

She couldn’t fight back. She couldn’t even defend herself. Whoever was attacking her had her completely pinned to the floor, including her arms.

Selene tried to buck her attacker off, but she couldn’t. The solid weight of him pressing down on her chest, made it hard for her to breathe. There was no way she would be able to get him off her without help.

The second hit made her vision go completely black. No stars, no light, just darkness surrounded her.

There was a vicious growl coming from somewhere in the room, and then suddenly the weight was gone. Her hands went to her throat as she sucked in air. Selene could hear a fight break out, but she still couldn’t see anything.

Rolling onto her stomach, she attempted to get back up on her feet, but quickly gave up when her stomach threatened to empty what little it had inside onto the floor. Unable to help with the fight, Selene crawled into the nearest corner.

Sitting with her back against the wall, she bent her legs and pulled them toward her chest to make herself as small as possible. If she couldn’t help with the fight, the least she could do was stay out of the way as much as she could in such a small space.

She could hear furniture break along with a lot of grunts and growls. There was no mistaking the sound of flesh ripping and bones breaking. Selene hated not knowing what was happening around her, but she trusted Arun to keep her safe.

When the hell did I start trusting him?

Selene didn’t know the answer, but she couldn’t deny the truth. Not to herself, anyway. She did trust him.

Thankfully, it didn’t take long for the fight to come to an end. She didn’t need to see to know who had won. Before the dead body had even hit the floor, Arun was kneeling in front of her, checking her for injuries.

His gentle touch was so at odds with what she expected it to be. But it was the sudden burst of arousal that really confused her. How the hell could she be aroused after the beating she just had?

Selene was starting to realise nothing was normal where Arun was concerned. Her body’s reaction to him while in so much pain was more proof of that.

Her vision was slowly coming back, but the pain inside her head was so excruciating, it was difficult to focus. She was still able to see the worry and concern on his face, though. It did strange things to her heart.

Gently wiping away the blood from her face and head, he carefully inspected the damage inflicted upon her.

“Are you okay?”

The concern and worry on his face was echoed in his voice. Selene didn’t have time to think about it, or reply to his question, before she was lifted into his arms and carried through to the bedroom.

He gently placed her down on the bed and then re-examined the cuts and bruises on her face.

“Are you okay?” he repeated.

“Apart from seeing stars, I’m fine,” she said.

She tried batting Arun’s hand away, but he was having none of it.

“Stop it,” he told her. “Just let me check you over.”
