“I’m not your anything,” she sneered.

“Oh, but you are,” he said sweetly. “We’ve been over this already, haven’t we? I paid good money for you, so youdobelong to me, just like all these other females.”

“There’s a big difference between me and them,” she reminded him.

“Yes, you have magic,” he said. “But that doesn’t change the fact that you belong to me. Plus, as long as you are in this building, your magic won’t work.”

Selene hadn’t tried to use her magic yet, and she wasn’t about to try it with him standing there, so she didn’t know if he was telling her the truth. She was still going to break out, whether it worked or not. She refused to die in that hellhole.

“And if you think my brother will be coming for you, then you can think again,” he told her. “He knows better than to touch what is mine.”

Brother?

The confusion must have shown on her face, because he laughed.

“Oh, sweet Selene, you silly little girl,” he said when he finally stopped laughing. “You didn’t have a clue, did you? That the Fae you gave your body to last night is none other than my baby brother, Arun.”

Selene felt like she had been kicked in the stomach by an Ogre. Her knees began to shake, and she had to swallow the vomit that threatened to escape.

It couldn’t be true. She would have known, wouldn’t she? The answer to that question was plain for all to see. She didn’t have a clue that Arun was Agnarr’s brother. How could she have known? Unless he had seen her while visiting his brother the last time she was in his care, Arun wouldn’t have known about her, either.

Surely Selene would have remembered him if she’d seen him before. She could remember the faces of every single person she had encountered while there, and Arun certainly wasn’t someone she would have forgotten. So, it made her wonder if he had been to see his brother while she’d been his prisoner.

It wasn’t like she shared that part of her life with him, or anyone, for that matter. If she had, he might have told her that Agnarr was his brother. But then again, he might not have.

What if he’d found out who she was and had called his brother to tell him where she was? The thought sent sharp pains straight through her heart.

“This is just priceless,” he smirked. “I wonder if Arun had the same reaction when he found out this morning.”

It took a moment for his last words to sink in. But when they did, the relief she felt rocked her to the core. If he hadn’t known about her association with his brother, that meant he hadn’t turned her over to the evil, sadistic bastard.

“As much as I’m enjoying our conversation, my sweet Selene,” he said. “I have some business to attend to before we can play.”

A shiver raced down her spine. She knew what type of games he liked to play, and she wanted no part of it.

“But don’t worry,” he grinned. “It won’t take me too long. I’ll be back before you know it.”

With that, he turned and left the room. Selene released the breathe she hadn’t known she was holding when the door closed behind him. There was a collective sigh of relief from the other females in the room, too.

They stared at her with awe in their eyes. As if she was someone to look up to. Selene would have told them not to be in awe of her, that they could stand up to him as well, but she couldn’t bring herself to talk to them.

With so many thoughts and emotions swirling around inside her, she felt sick and dizzy. She just needed a moment or two to process everything before she completely lost her shit. But first, she needed to get her mind off the broken record of ‘Holy, shit! They’re brothers!’
