“Yeah, I know.” She looked over her shoulder at him and shrugged. “But I’m cold, so I’m going to soak up some heat first.”
Arun raised an eyebrow. “You do know I can use magic to warm the place up? It would be a lot quicker than that fire.”
“I know,” she said. “But I like to feel the heat from the fire on my hands.”
“Okay,” he said. “The offer is there if you change your mind.”
Arun walked over to the table and chairs. He picked up one of the chairs and moved it so he would be able to see both doorways. He could also keep an eye on Selene at the same time.
“I take it you didn’t find anything in the other room?” she asked after a moment.
“Only beds.”
“I knew you wouldn’t find anything,” she told him. “I was the last person to use this bunker. It was abandoned years ago because of how far north it is. It’s too cold up here for most people, especially other Humans, so they don’t venture this far north.”
“Is that why you stayed?”
“Partly,” she admitted. “But also, because I fell in love with my bunker. It has running water and electricity. Admittedly, the electricity was temperamental, but it was better than nothing.”
“You were lucky to find the place,” he said.
She closed the door to the wood burner and then climbed to her feet. Arun’s eyes were glued to her shapely arse and her slightly spread thighs as she reached up and stretched.
He had to fight the urge to walk up behind her, wrap his arms around her waist, and pull her body flush with his. He wanted to brush her hair out of the way so he could trail kisses down her neck as his hand roamed further south.
The images floating through his mind had his cock rock hard in seconds. He quickly adjusted his cock before she turned around and noticed it.
Arun nearly lost the fight when she wiggled her hips before dropping her arms and walking over to the sofa. She turned around, taking away the view of her fine arse, and curled up on the sofa as she faced him.
Thank goddess she didn’t bend over!
Because he would have definitely lost the fight if she had bent over. Just the thought had his cock twitching.
“Tell me about it,” she grimaced. “I’ve stayed in a couple of bunkers in the past that had electricity, but none have had running water. So, I was over the moon when I came across my bunker.”
“It was a lot bigger than this one.” He looked around at the cramped space.
“Yeah, it was too big really,” she said. “There were a lot of rooms I didn’t use. It’s a shame it’s so far north. It would have been a perfect hiding place for a large group of Humans. Unfortunately, most bunkers are like this one. Dark and dingy metal cans buried underground.”
“If you don’t like them, why do you stay in them?”
“Because it’s safer than sleeping above ground. Because it’s warm and drier than sleeping above ground. Do I need to say more?” she asked.
“I didn’t think, sorry,” he said. “They’re not that bad, really.”
It seemed like he was forever putting his foot in it with Selene. What he needed to do was think before he spoke. That would solve some of the problems. But with her, he didn’t seem to have that ability.
“Yeah, right,” Selene rolled her eyes. “They are that bad, but they’re better than nothing, and it beats sleeping on the cold, hard ground in the pissing rain.”
If he was honest, he would rather take the cold, hard ground in the pissing rain than sleep in a bunker that smelt like a rubbish tip. But he understood why the Humans used them. It was a form of safety for them. Safety from the elementsandfrom those who wanted to harm them.
Like me.
Like he used to be, but not anymore. Meeting Selene had changed that. He no longer wanted to hunt Humans.
If he was honest, it had started long before he met Selene. Even before he heard her voice in his head. But since speaking to her and getting to know her, he was even more sure that he was making the right decision.
His days of hunting and killing Humans were well and truly over.
