“Can one being not help another without having a reason?”
She gave him her best ‘are you kidding me’ look. “Strike two.”
Selene tapped her foot on the ground as she waited for him to answer. After a long, drawn-out silence, he sighed heavily.
“Fine,” he said. “If you must know, I don’t have a clue.”
“That, I can believe,” she grinned. “Well, if you’re going to follow me like a lost little puppy, the least you can do is tell me your name.”
He inclined his head. “My name is Arun, and you are?”
Without saying a word, she turned around and continued walking. Arun quickly caught up. As he walked beside her, he looked at her expectantly.
“Tracy,” she lied.
It was his turn to pull a face at her. “If you want me to be honest, then you have to be, as well.”
“Fine,” she huffed. “Selene.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Selene.”
Selene kicked herself for not insisting her name was Tracy. Especially when her insides melted at the sound of her name on his lips.
“Well, I can’t say it’s been a pleasure to meet you,” she grimaced. “More like a nightmare.”
Which was technically true. Having a Fae following her wasn’t exactly what she’d call a dream come true, but at least he wasn’t too bad to look at.
Too bad? Are you fucking kidding me? He’s fucking hot as hell! Her subconscious shouted.Yeah, well, he’s still aFae!She reminded herself.
She mentally slapped herself when she caught her mind drifting into dangerous territory, where Arun played a starring role.
“So, are you going to tell me what we’re doing now?” he asked.
Selene shook her head. “Nope.”
“I can’t help you if I don’t know what you’re trying to do.”
She shrugged her shoulders. “I didn’t ask for your help.”
“That doesn’t change the fact that I’m helping you.”
“It also doesn’t change the fact that I didn’t ask for it,” she countered. “I don’t need or want your help. You’re the one insisting on following me.”
Arun blew out a breath. “Are you always this stubborn?”
“Are you always this annoying?”
He shocked her by saying, “Yes.”
“I bet your friends love that about you.” She rolled her eyes. “That’s if you even have any friends.”
“I have friends,” he said, sounding offended. “And trust me, they are even more annoying than me at times.”
“If that’s the case, I’m so glad they are not with you right now.”
“Why? Do you want me all to yourself?”
Yes! Yes, I do!
She could hear the teasing in his tone, but he didn’t know how close to the mark he’d hit. Selene was not sweet and innocent, but it had been a very long time since she last had sex with a man. And by a long time, she meant decades.
Selene quickly schooled her features, so she didn’t give away how close she was to throwing caution to the wind and pouncing on him.
She turned to him and rolled her eyes dramatically. “As if. More like I’m glad there isn’t any more of you.”
Now that was true. She wanted no more of his kind hanging around. It was bad enough he wouldn’t leave her alone.
If he doesn’t want to leave, fine. But he best not try to stop me again.
Nothing and no-one was going to stop her from completing her mission, especially not some annoying Fae. No matter how drop-dead gorgeous he was.
