“Yeah, you did.”

“I’ll be there in a couple of hours.”

Bryan cuts me off.

“You know I love you like a brother, but you need to listen to her. I know she’s told you she wants some space. If I were you, I’d give it to her.”

“But.”

“Ady, I mean it. Look, she's really upset with you right now. Just listen to what she’s saying.”

“Ok.” I groan. “Keep an eye on her, yeah?”

“Of course. I’m meeting her for lunch soon.”

“Let me know how she is after?”

“Ady, please. Grow a pair.”

We both laugh and say our goodbyes, and I hang up the phone. I take a shower and get dressed and go to work. I don’t like this. I’d gotten so used to our morning routine in the morning and going to work together.

This is just shit.

I walkinto my office and Jenna keeps her head down. I’m obviously giving off ‘don’t mess with me’ vibes.

She walks in and puts my coffee on the desk and walks right back out, closing the door behind her.

I know I’m working at a snail's pace this morning, I’m finding it hard to concentrate. The sooner I hear from Bryan, the better.

Trying unsuccessfully to get any work done. As soon as I move away from my desk to work in the conference room on the other side of my office, my phone pings.

Bryan: She’s fine.

I pull up the messaging app on my laptop and FaceTime Bryan.

He picks up straight away.

“Hey,” I say, running my hands through my hair.

“Ok. So she’s pissed.”

“No kidding.”

“I told you weeks ago to mention the whole Katie working there thing.”

“I know.”

I push myself back in my chair.

“Things were going so well.”

“I get it, but man, I warned you this was going to blow up in your face.”

“I know. How did she seem otherwise?”

“Fine, actually. She was still wearing your engagement ring, so there’s that. She’s staying in the apartment, not a hotel room, so again it's a good sign. I think you just need to give her some space. She thinks everything has sort of gone too fast.”

“That’s what I was worried about.”
